Bake Sales, or just more BS?

Readers,

It's been nearly a week since Arleigh Kidd, a local union leader and frequent poster to my blog, made a post that said that the $10,000 per child figure included dollars from "bake sales" at local schools.

This was a clear parrot of a talking point made the day before by State Sup Jack O'Connell. I called Arleigh on that point, and in this blog, told him if he thinks "bake sale" dollars are included in district budgets, then he should point out the line item in district budgets (In his position, I am sure he has access to these public documents).

We all know that the statement is a fallacy, and clearly just a talking point in order to distract people, and not debate the facts of school funding.

But doesn't Arleigh owe us an explanation? Doesn't this type of "talking point debate" lessen his argument, strain credulity and put a damper on Arleigh's credibility?

What do you think? How much time should we give this educational leader to come up with the numbers?

The clock is indeed ticking...

When I played 8th grade basketball at Hillside Jr. High, we used to sell snow cones to raise money for our trips.

I wonder where the snow cone line items were? Do they still exist? :)

Tim,
You should thank me, without me you would not have anything to blog about. Bake sale money can be found I believe under "Principal Gift Accounts" and I believe sometimes it is under ASB accounts, Lowell schultz at the Simi District office can tell you also if it might be under any other accounts. As a former candidate for the school board I cannot believe you would not know this. Making wild accusations is becoming part of your M.O. it seems. Don't blame me if Arnold is misleading people. Perhaps he is too busy shoving more special interest money from the magazine people into his pocket to do his homework. For now on do your own homework Tim and quit relying on me to give you the facts. Arleigh

Wow Areleigh! If that's the account you and Jack O. are talking about, then you must be saying that the schools are selling an awful lot of cupcakes to impact the budget in a material way.

Hey - here's an idea. Why don't we set goals for each of the schools for their bake sales. Each school could have this sign of a giant Snow Cone, or cupcake, and as sales increase, the Frosting could grow on the sign!

Think of the community involvement! The Atkins people might not like it, but the community would sure rally for our schools.

Tim,
If you don't like the answer, don't ask the question. Arleigh
