Nah... Really?

From the Daily News article...

"Carla Kurachi and Greg Stratton were both elected to the Simi Valley Unified School District's Board of Education in 2002.

They supported a group of unsuccessful candidates in a bitter 2004 race and said in the past they were passed over in organizational meetings when the board president was selected. "

--end--

Was there retribution to be had for supporting us losing candidates and was Sandland's election to Board President a day of reckoning?

Why were the board members so upset - after all, they WON?

Was the election negative, or was there impression of it negative because the challengers were running on the board's record (in other words, negative)

What is your impression of the 2004 Simi school board election?

Would you support Measure C4 now and it's 13% inflation rate?

As for the challengers, where are they now? There are two open seats now.

Let's do on the blog what the board seems incapable of doing - talk about it. Let's confront the election now, discuss why Stratton & Kurachi ended up isolated.

Let's also discuss the great accomplishments of the sitting board since November 2004.

As "one of the unsuccessful candidates", I welcome the debate.

Tim,

So far two candidate's have pulled papers, Bob LaBelle and Tim J. Camarillo. I do not know Camarillo, do you?

Who do you think would be a good candidate that is willing and able to serve and have the time?

A couple just to start would be Randy Sundeen, Kim Rubenstein, Debi Schultze to name a few. There are also quite a few great leaders within Rotary and Kiwani's.

I'm going to reserve comment on potential candidates until all of the names are in, but that Tim Camarillo name is awfully familiar.

If we are to improve our society we can start by returning control of pubic education back to the parents and taxpayers who pay for it. In my district the union bosses control the district and the school board. The unions have given their endorsement and money to 4 of 5 board members.
The union then impliments an agenda hostile to parents. For example, statement cards ran 6:1 against the textbook which defined marriage "as a union of partners or individuals". No matter, the union bosses demanded approval and won. The parents lost.
Then 223 parents and students petitioned the board to keep their principal. They are referred to as "crazies" and the other board members did not even look at their petition.
I have 42 pages of contributions Form 470, Schedule A VC Elections Division showing over S14,000 in contributions to the other four board members (Phelps, Stephens, Beaubien and Didio).
Now you know why the union bosses will say anything and do anything to destroy me. Now you know what the propaganda campaign is all about. I am a threat to their power. I am the only board member they do not control. The only board member who gives preference to the parents and taxpayers.

Mike, a few nations and at least one state already allow Marriages between two same sex people. If one of them moved to the district would you instruct your districts teachers to tell the student their parents are not married as defined by you?

Perhaps why your "union bosses" give money and endorsements to the other 4 board of ed members is because they support ALL STUDENTS and not just a small group of 'over-done'-crusaders with their 'spokesman' crying what a victim he is? I resent your comments, Mr. Dunn, as I AM A TAXPAYER IN THOUSAND OAKS and the only good I've seen from you for this community is comic-relief because what you do and say is absurd.

I heard Mike Dunn went begging to the teachers for money when he ran. They did not support him because he is a wacko! Now he cries that everyone else is bought off? What a cry baby hypocrite Dunn is! Dunn also voted against getting a 5% pay increase but he still accepts the money, he did not turn it down, another Board member gives the entire monthly stipend to the Ed Foundation in Conejo. Dunn also hides behind his wifes skirt tails! Everyone in Conejo is Done with Dunn and he will get beaten badly in November!

Back to Donna's comment, I certainly hope that Randy Sundeen doesn't run. He is one of the most unethical people I have ever met, plus he has more than a few skeletons in the closet that make him a particularly poor candidate for school board. If a guy like that gets elected then there is truly no hope for our school district.

Most unethical men you have ever met? That is a pretty brutal attack. I don't think I have eve met the guy but that seems pretty strongly worded if you aren't going to back it up.

People often debate with Mr. Keaney but the nice thing is I have never heard anyone doubt his character. Mr. Keaney thanks for bringing open, fair debates to the table even when you and I disagree ( which is often) I think you are a good guy.

I have met Randy a few times and no nothing of the skeletons or why he is the most unethical man you have ever met. I don't hold that opinion.

Anyone who makes such an assertion should back it up.

Ouch Town - thanks for your comments, but I disagree with them - :)

I agree with Ouch Town. In a lot of these school board races, people who run and lose just go away, and I think keany is the exception to that. There were a lot of candidates in the 2004 campaign as I remember, and they are all silent regarding the school board now.

I have worked with Mr. Sundeen through his law practice and have some very strong opinions about his ethical behavior. Unfortunately much of what I know about him is nothing that I can publically share. I'm also well aware of other incidents involving his numerous encounters with local law enforcement agencies, but again is something I am reluctant to discuss publically. Suffice it to say that his public persona is different from the man I know he is.

Ok - I think we're getting into areas here that may be out of bounds. This blog is about educational issues, and we are now seeing what happens when people name names, even as suggestions, without their knowledge.

If we want to speculate about who's running, that's great. But you need to know when you name names, it puts them up for public discussion.

Some may like this, others I am sure will not.

I also have worked with Mr. Sundeen through his lawfirm. He would be an ideal candidate. Mr. Sundeen has values, very motivated, and is a professional person. Mr. Sundeen cares about the school system and would guide the schools in the right direction.
