Guard needed here

Among the many inspired insights left to us by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one fashioned during the Vietnam War when he said, “The bombs we are dropping on Vietnam today will explode here in our own country tomorrow.”

What has this to do with our war in Iraq? Consider that 6,000 National Guard troops based in Louisiana alone were fighting in our illegal and immoral war in Iraq when they were required to deal with the catastrophic emergency named Katrina.

These troops were in Tikrit, Baghdad and Fallujah when they were needed in search and rescue efforts in Mobile, Ala., pumping out Baton Rouge, La., and reparing the levees around New Orleans.

Many of those who have been sacrificed to Katrina along our Gulf Coast are, in every way, victims of our terrible military action in Iraq. They will not be counted among the uniformed casualties, but if we look honestly at the disaster, they are surely among what we, dispassionately, have called the “collateral damage” of the war.

I must have missed something, when hurricane Katrina hit the coast and left people in such dire need of help.
The people left behind, should have been evacuated, long before Katrina came in.
My husband and I went through a hurricane, which was no where near Katrina, but we had a change to leave long before the hurricane came our way.
The Governors of each of these states should have sent in the buses long before Katrina and taken the people out of arms way.
And what about the “Conrad Alert System” is it broken? It never seems to go off, when it is really needed.

there is an excellent video from Monday of guard vet kelley dougherty addressing just this issue. find it at truthout.com, in the camp casey video blog.

This must be a mistake?
I heard that “FEMA“, will no longer pay for the motel rooms that the victims of hurricane Katrina are staying in (they have been told to leave).
Then I hear that the congress has given themselves a raise in pay of $31,000.00.
It must be easier for the congress to sweep these victims under the rug on their way to the BANK, this is not right.
Our government was established to protect the people, not throw them into the street and leave them homeless.
The US has no problem helping out other countries in need.
Maybe the White House could help the victims out. All they need to do is help the victims the same way they do other countries.

I have just about had it with Mexico’s President Vicente Fox.
As I read my newspaper today, a story with this quote hit me with rage!
Quote, “Fox’s shows how Mexicans dislike U.S.
(By Dane Schiller, San Antonio Express-News)

The story starts out to say “Mexicans should be glad they weren’t born in the U.S., it was a reminder of an ugly little truth. Aside from the U.S. economy many Mexican citizens especially those still living in Mexico don’t care much for the U.S. “we are already a step ahead, having been born in Mexico. Imagine being born in the United States oof! Fox said with a chuckle.

Here is what I think of you President Fox!
While you sit in your big house, eating the best of food, driving the best cars (which were bought in the U.S.) and wearing $3,000.00 suits, your people live in poverty. You offer no decent housing, no decent paying jobs and no decent schools. How dare you, make these statements about the U.S.

You go on to say, that the U.S. offers the Mexican people, broken families, rampant drug use and unchecked materialism.
Now let’s see what you offer the U.S. Not one good paying job, to encourage your people to live in Mexico. No medical care. (The U.S. provides doctors, to come to Mexico, and help your people, get medical aid for free).
I wonder how many conjoined babies have come here and receive no cost medical assistance? How many of your people, do you help with free medical assistance?
And oh, let’s not forget your contribution, of drugs from Mexico, which are brought in by tunnels dug under Mexico; to the U.S. (I guess this covers your quote of rampant drug use).
Those same tunnels also provide a way for your people to get to the U.S.
I would think, if you said your people hate the U.S. so much, why don’t you stop this, from your side?

When are you going to stop your Drug lords from trafficking, this poison to the U.S.?
One of you latest trafficking items is in pets that come here sick and dieing and are sold at the highest price. When will you put a stop to this?

The U.S. may have its faults, but so do other countries. I would think, before you make any more statements about the U.S., you first look in your own back yard, and make Mexico a place for your people to be proud of .

I really don’t understand all this complaining about the price of gas. I hear all the time, that in other countries, they pay a lot more per gallon for gas then we do, so where do we have the right to complain?
Well I will give you the reasons, we have the right to complain, because we are outraged about the price of gas. When the holidays come around, the prices of gas, goes up and up, and up. Just think, summer is on it‘s way, $$$$$$. Myself, I had to give up the holidays, because all our extra money goes for gas, HO HO HO, Humbug!
And did you know, that for every extra dollar you had to shell out for gas last year, it went into the CEOs pocket. Who do you think paid for the $52 million dollar bonus, that one of the oil companies, paid their CEO last Christmas? (could it be you and I?)
So why should I complain, at least I was able to give one gift. Shame on the rest of you for being upset about having to pay for this gift as well.
As far as the people who bring up the fact that the price of gas is higher in other countries, I have this to say: “ I DON’T LIVE IN ANY OF THESE COUNTRIES, I LIVE HERE, IN AMERICA! If they are dumb enough to pay the higher cost for gas, go for it. In fact I will go one better, when they visit America, they can pay the higher price for gas and this way I will be able to get gas for my car at a lower price.
I watch the nightly news on TV and wonder, “where is all that money going to, that is being pumped out of Iraq (I hear it is $5, 000, 000.00 a day)?
Look there is only one way to stop the oil companies from bleeding you to dry with higher prices. It’s not a day and it is not a week but a month or longer to stop buying gas and I am sure that will send them the message, LOWER THE PRICE!
I know, that some of you will say, but I need my car for business, I need it for shopping, I need it for taking the children around, etc. There is always, the bus, the train, car pooling, walking and I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture.
If you are unable to commit to this, then I guess you are all right with the prices of gas going up and up and up.
