Idling trains a problem

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

I love trains. They are a great way to move both people and freight. But based on my experience with Southern Pacific, I think that the Ventura County Transportation Commission should look long and hard if S.P. would be the freight carrier.

I live on Channel Drive in Ventura where the train tracks run right behind the buildings. In our apartment buildings, people get used to the noise and rumble of the trains. However, on too many occasions, we have had them idling for long periods of time. This means constant noise and diesel fumes.

Regarding the government engaging in domestic spying after Sept. 11, many in the mainstream media seem to be taking the view that this sort of thing is outrageous and that spying on mosques and Islamic businesses is wrong. Yet they would be the loudest critics if another catastrophic terrorist attack happens.

When it comes to my civil liberties, the one I care about the most is my right to life. If that’s taken away from you, all the rest doesn’t matter.

When I first learned that the Ventura Aquatic Center was going to be built, I was thrilled. I enjoy lap swimming, and even though the Ventura City Council was going to have to allocate $22 million for the project, I felt there was a need for it. Demand for open swim lanes is high in Ventura, and it seems as though there are always too few to go around. This community pool seemed to be the perfect tool to alleviate pent-up demand.

When the Ventura Aquatic Center first made its long-anticipated opening, my family and I were duly impressed. It is a beautiful facility, and it was done in a first-class fashion. All was wonderful for the first few weeks. We swam on an almost nightly basis; indeed, it seemed too good to be true.

Re: Anthony van Leeuwen’s Dec. 30 letter, “Evolution as a religion:

Mr. Leeuwen is wrong in his assertions on several counts.

There are no simplistic explanantions for many of Mr. Leeuwen’s assertions. Evolution is a very complex process, and to understand it requires many years of dedicated study in paleontology, microbiology, biology, chemistry and physics, just to mention a few areas. Scientific creationism does not explain life’s origin based on an explanation of any evidence, but simply because it is consistent with the story of Genesis.

I am still awaiting Bush’s clarification as to precisely how zero Iraq-related American deaths prior to our occupation of Iraq was considered “less free and less peaceful than the now 2,160-plus American deaths in Iraq, and how more than 100,000 Iraqi citizen deaths after our occupation equates to a global climate that is now more free and peaceful than before. In my 10 short years of teaching, I have watched good intentions destroy education.

California wants superior teachers and so imposes the most stringent requirements in the country. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on what is a credentialed teacher. Confusing laws have potential teachers lingering in college for years trying to meet shifting expectations. If one completes a credential, it must be “cleared with additional coursework and visits from master teachers (who have gotten their own credentials under a completely different system). In addition, should one choose to shift his path to go from one credential to another, the experience one receives under one credential does not apply to another. The content of one credential does not affect the content or the coursework of the other. For myself — with a cleared multiple-subject credential, a master’s degree in special education and recepient of the Golden Bell for Teaching Excellence in Special Education — I still have to clear the special-education credential and have a visiting mentor teacher. This costs money, about $500 per unit.

These standards not only affect new teachers but also out-of-state educators attempting to move into California. I know of two educators already driven away, two who are struggling to stay, and one who emptied a life’s savings to meet requirements. The harm is that California positions for education specialties remained unfilled as recruits from within and outside the state navigate the duplications of the state’s education processes.

Since I would rather live as a teacher instead of following the treadmill of California credentialing, I find myself looking at the want ads in various states — some are looking pretty good. I’m comforted that I might meet California students who are also fleeing the same education system.

Understanding science

Re: Ron Patterson’s Dec. 29 letter, “Science of the Bible:

Robinson tells us to “examine the Bible as a theory like it does the Darwinian theory. Yes, they are both theories and should both be examined.

Patterson does not really understand the significance of a scientific theory. A theory is a scientific principle derived through logical inference from carefully conducted experiments or from collected observations. The whole of the evidence is weighed when developing a theory. And when new evidence is found to contradict the theory, the evidence rules that the theory must then be changed.

Shall we apply the same rigor to the Bible? True believers take the Bible as immutable. If evidence indicates an error in the Bible, the evidence is discarded because the Bible cannot be changed. This is not science, and the Bible is not a scientific theory.

Today, we see an anti-science movement in American society. Patterson’s comments — his ignorance of the meaning of “theory — merely reflect that movement. The result can be the loss of our nation’s technological supremacy and a shift of dominance to nations that can separate faith from science.

Unchecked power

As this year reaches a close, it is valuable to consider the advice from our founders and other great American leaders that our greatest threat to maintaining our freedom comes from within, not from the outside. Consider the words of Abraham Lincoln on Sept. 11, 1858:

“What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence? … Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has planted in us. Our defense is in the spirit which prized liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your own doors. Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage and you prepare your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of others, you have lost the genius of your own independence and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises among you.

This “war on terrorism is an unending one, not like previous wars we have fought; and the growth of unchecked power of the president is exactly what Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln were concerned about.

Offender living nearby

As a concerned mother of three daughters, I am extremely disturbed by a recent discovery. My children and I live in a townhouse complex in Simi Valley. About a month ago, I was informed that, within this complex, is a registered child-sex offender.

After checking the Megan’s Law Web site, lo and behold there is the face, address and list of offenses of a resident in my complex. My first instinct is panic. After calming down, my journey of emotions begins. My bubble has been burst. The shocking part is how many offenders there are in Simi Valley.

Being a single parent, I have worked very hard to have my children grow up in Simi Valley. I felt it was the safest environment I could provide them. Reality has hit home with the Megan’s Law site. It doesn’t matter where you live, offenders are there. The only advantage is now you can see them, know who they are and where they live.

The issue I have is the lack of security I feel since knowing I am living in close proximity to a child-sex offender. I have a difficult time understanding where his rights stop and mine begin. He has taken away my peace of mind and I resent it. I realize he has paid for his crime, but I feel it is my right to be able to live with my children without the fear of him re-offending.

It bothers me to have to inform my children that a neighbor has to be watched very carefully for fear he might harm them.

It was a sad day when I made this discovery.

The Oxnard Harbor District is preparing to seize private land in Port Hueneme through eminent domain to build a 17- acre cargo and vehicle-handling facility. In contrast, a development of 150 houses and a park dedicated to the Chumash Indians has been approved for the same site by the City of Port Hueneme.

Many local residents have consistently attended Harbor District meetings to discuss the expansion plans. Residents near the proposed VHF have consistently voiced their opposition to the VHF project. In contrast, local support for the VHF project has previously been virtually nonexistent. These dynamics changed drastically at the Dec. 21 meeting.

The facts are that evolution — where one species evolves into another — is also religious or philosophical in nature. With respect to the current debate over civil liberties versus security, those of us over 60 should recall the similar debate in the 1950s with the hysteria about Communism, subversion, McCarthyism and blacklists, when people lost their jobs and even their freedom because of their speech or their friends. We remember loyalty oaths then, and the joke that Communists would gladly take the oath.

America survived at that time, somewhat bruised. The wrong has been recognized.

Before that, we had World War II, when Japanese-Americans had their civil liberties revoked also because of hysteria. That wrong has been amply recognized.

— Nastier, more abusive drivers waving their middle finger in the air and cutting each other off in an effort to get a better parking spot to buy presents in his name for their loved ones. Maybe some people wave the finger, swear and cut off other drivers who might make them late for church.

Second, what the Senate did not approve was not the Patriot Act, but rather long-term extensions of the bill, some of which would have been permanent.

Indifference, oppositions and changes in our modern society today undermine the old American tradition and practice almost all of us were born to embrace, love and carry on.

First and foremost is our reverence and trust in God that some people wish to strike from our Pledge of Allegiance, our dollar bills and coins, and deny our schools and public places.

It is so sad and unfortunate because God is all about love, compassion and service that made our nation strong, unique and beautiful. With him in our lives, our country became a vision of one big happy family where freedom is exercised with pride, dignity, sensitivity and respect for each other. Without his presence, our existence centers on our own life alone and what makes us happy, driven by a strong desire to prove and perpetuate our own superiority over others, a lust for power.

Not much impeachment rattling was ever made when he lied about the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or about Saddam Hussein being connected with al-Qaida, for which 160,000 U.S. troops will not be with their families this holiday season.

For once, Bush is accepting a truth: He admitted that four years ago he allowed the National Security Agency, an arm of the Pentagon, to spy on phone conversations and e-mails of U.S. civilians without court-approved warrants. For once, he admitted that he has and is infringing onto the democratic constitutional rights of U.S. citizens.

President Bush has authorized spying on American citizens without the benefit of a court hearing or warrant. Current law allows for secret courts and spying on Americans under the Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Act. Bush tells us his actions are legal because the plan has been approved by the Justice Department. This department is part of the executive branch of government and offers no oversight. Informing a few senators also is not oversight.

The president also claims his position as commander in chief gives him the right to set up his own system of spying outside the scrutiny of any review process. This is the logic of despots. Simi trustees are squabbling

Leave it to the Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees to be leaders and tackle the tough educational issues of the day.

Funding cuts due to No Child Left Behind, deteriorating teacher working conditions, lack of adequate technology and teaching supplies, and a bond program experiencing serious cost overruns are all topics our trustees could be tackling. And yet, when we open The Star, we don’t see those issues being addressed. But we do see a squabble over who will be president of the Board of Education.

The destruction of the greenhouses marked the end of an era for many graduates and those of us who will never get to graduate from Ventura College’s horticulture department.

The current Board of Trustees and administration of Ventura College do not believe that horticulture has any significance in Ventura County — at least not enough that it is worthwhile to consider training students who want to spend their life growing, planting or selling plants for environmental benefit and aesthetic beauty.

It doesn’t matter that it’s the second largest industry in the county.

‘Christmas’ is part of U.S. law

For some reason, there seems to be an extraordinary effort to disassociate the word “Christmas with December 25 this year. The term “politically correct is often used in the arguments, and some retailers say they don’t want to offend anyone by using the word “Christmas. I did some research on the matter of political correctness on the Internet, and I came up with the following information.

In 1870, the U.S. government passed an act authorizing “the twenty-fifth day of December, called Christmas Day as a holiday within the District of Columbia. An 1885 joint resolution of Congress further authorized employees of various government departments to take the 25th of December as a holiday.

In recent weeks, President Bush has been on television bragging about the “freedom he is bringing to the Iraqi people. (After all, we never went in there looking for weapons of mass destruction.)

Last week, he admitted to approving to eavesdropping on American citizens without judicial oversight and says it will continue. He has also been pushing for the renewal of the sections of the so-called Patriot Act that are the most damaging to Americans’ civil rights.

The only thing I can figure that he is doing with his hypocritical actions is taking freedom from the American people and shipping it to the Iraqi people.

Police force excessive

I got home from work Saturday and turned the news on to see police riddling a fleeing suspect with 100 rounds! One-hundred rounds is ridiculous! What would happen if a civilian spent even 10 rounds on an attacker? He would be imprisoned for excessive force!

If the police are put in place to keep civilians in line, exactly who is is supposed to keep the police in line? The people? The minute they find out who you are, they make your life a living hell. I have had very unprofessional and quite ridiculous run-ins with the police.

The Julian calendar used at the time erroneously considered this day the winter solstice. In many pre-electricity cultures, the winter solstice was very important. It symbolized the “return of the sun, because light increased each day until the summer solstice in June.

In addition to getting the lights up on the trees, hot drinks, cookies and little candy canes were handed out by the men at the actual lighting of the trees, which were enjoyed by all, as it was a cold evening.

I have an idea for Rep. Hunter: Why doesn’t he and his cronies in Washington take one or more of the 97 major military bases closed since 1988 and turn those into private, non-public, military-only recreational compounds. Did I mention 21 of those bases were in California?

It is a disservice to use the term “drunken drivers in your story when describing law enforcement’s efforts to crack down on incidents of driving under the influence.

Each of those groups can be as deadly as those who drive while drunk out of their mind.

Revenge gouges a deep, dark chasm in our souls that can never be filled regardless of the price we try to exact in the name of justice. It reduces us to the level of the perpetrator and leaves us with an insatiable thirst for goodness.

Innocent or guilty, we cannot push a man into his grave without crawling down in there with him. Every time we conduct a state murder in the name of justice, we all die a little bit.

Charter at crossroads

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Over the past couple of years, there has been an intensive and exhaustive effort by parents and teachers wanting to establish Ventura Unified School District’s first charter school: the School of Arts and Global Education (SAGE).

Major achievements along the way have included writing a grant, which was successfully funded ($400,000) by the state, and the writing of the school’s entire charter.

Charter schools are public schools that offer an educational experience and the potential for a school to evolve, something that cannot be provided by the regular, non-charter schools in a district. There are currently more than 500 charter schools in California.

A look at SAGE

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

The Ventura Unified School District board is discussing the addition of a K-8 charter school in Ventura on Tuesday night. The School of Arts and Global Education (SAGE) is proposed to open in September 2006.

A charter school is a public school and must meet the same state standards as all other public schools. However, there is much more flexibility in the teaching methodologies and instructional materials used. This flexibility allows teachers to teach students using methods designed to appeal to a variety of learning styles.

It is widely theorized by many educational and developmental experts that not all students learn the same way. Gardner, Piaget and Vygotsky are all very well respected in their field, yet traditional public education today ignores these innovative theories, at the expense of millions of children each year who struggle in a traditional classroom.

I feel that the Oxnard Union High School District does not want to lose Camarillo because that would mean significantly less revenue for the district, lower test scores, and the number of Caucasian students would be dramatically reduced.

Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña is up to her normal demagoguery by suggesting it is undemocratic to replace Ed Masry by appointment rather than by a special election. The council members are qualified to appoint city managers, city attorneys, etc., but, in her mind, they are not qualified, capable or trustworthy to appoint another co-council person?

Mrs. Bill-de la Peña should take note that one of our states — one of the original 13 colonies — just allowed a single person, the governor, to appoint a U.S. senator from New Jersey. I could probably go to Google and get a sizable list of senators and members of Congress who replaced their deceased spouse by appointment, but that would just give Mrs. Bill-de la Peña a longer list to call undemocratic.

I almost became sick to my stomach when I read that Ventura County residents are holding a vigil for convicted murderer and Crips gang founder, Stanley “Tookie Williams, who is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 13.

How about a vigil for the four people he brutally murdered? Shouldn’t some respect and consideration be shown for the poor families of his victims? What about a vigil for the countless lives that have had havoc wreaked upon them by the Crips gang, which Mr. Williams helped found?

Surrender in 2 wars

Inasmuch as the rhetoric surrounding our ongoing involvement in the establishment of a pseudo-Jeffersonian, one man-one vote democracy has degenerated into a battle for impressive sound bites, I think the left in America has made a case for surrender in Iraq, which could be translated into a surrender in much less important fights that they have championed for the last century.

If a mere possibility of success serves as a prerequisite for premature surrender, many of the most cherished social battles fought by the left in our nation on issues ranging from poverty to social/racial justice deserve “cease fire status as well.

Greed wins in U.S.

Usually, we do not hear of corruption stemming from the Oval Office until years after the damage has been done. This time, we are hearing about it while George Bush is still in office.

We now know that many of our national entanglements in war came about after information that might have averted the violence had been received. This time, we have learned of purposeful misinformation being passed in order to implicate us in the Iraq war. The president was involved in the misconception.

Simi’s good ol’ days

As I looked out the window of a popular restaurant in Simi Valley, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “What the heck happened to little Simi Valley?

The constant flow of traffic on the streets throughout the city on a Tuesday afternoon astounded me.

I was born and raised in Simi Valley. I went to Arcane before it closed, Berylwood, Sinaloa and Royal High School. I remember a time before the Rodney King trial put Simi Valley on the map, and the population explosion of the last 10 years was only considered population growth.

Mocking the system

Let’s get the details very clear and straight.

Stanley “Tookie Williams murdered four people. He had his day in court, he was found guilty by a jury of his peers and was given the death sentence.

While he sat on death row for 24 years, soaking up tax money and enjoying life, the relatives of the victims tried to find some kind of peace and existence without their loved ones.

Gasoline is a dinosaur

Re: Bob Munson’s Dec. 7 letter, “Dirty electricity:

This letter referenced The Star’s Dec. 2 article, “Battery powered, in which I was profiled.
Mr. Munson states that “electric cars cause more pollution than gasoline cars because of transmission line losses. Nothing could be further from the truth. True, transmission of electricity is only 95 percent efficient, but compare that to the 15 percent efficiency of the internal combustion engine.

Moreover, gas doesn’t appear at the pump by magic. Petroleum refining is the single biggest industrial user of electricity in California.

Re: Richard Larsen’s Dec. 6 essay, “Strategy misses the mark:

I want to thank Mr. Larsen for his continued representation of the mass media on how bias affects our reality.

If Larsen were a football coach, he would complain that the opposing team wasn’t being “specific enough on their plans (strategy).

He would demand his team and fans deserve to know exactly what plays they are going to run (tactics), and when they’re going to run them (timeliness).

Must hate old people

After struggling to understand the new Medicare drug program and keeping one of my daughters on the computer trying to get it right, I’ve come to this conclusion: Whoever stuck us with this thing must hate old people.

So why don’t they just shoot us?

Upside of secularism

Re: Bill O’Reilly’s Dec. 3 commentary, “Hey, it’s the solstice buying season for the secular forces:

In his rant against retailers who do not specifically mention Christmas in their holiday promotions, I think Bill O’Reilly has missed a bigger issue.

By leaving the birth of a sacred figure, whom many people believe to be their lord and savior, out of the rampant commercialism that has become synonymous with this season, these retailers are, perhaps inadvertently, showing respect to both Christ and Christians.

Re: your Dec. 3 Arts & Living article, “From strict creationist to father of evolution:

I would like to point out a major and puzzling omission in this article.

The article quotes the last few words in Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species, but omits a part of the sentence that was certainly relevant. The complete quote, with the omission noted in parentheses, follows:

‘Renditioning’ torture

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Condoleezza Rice’s torture denial is a bald-faced lie.

The denial must be placed in the context of Vice President Cheney’s effort to exclude the CIA from a law banning all U.S. agencies from conducting cruel and degrading treatment of prisoners and the documented abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

An article published in the Washington Post and broadcast on Democracy Now! reveals that the CIA Counterterrorism Center maintains a “rendition group of some 1,200 which roams about the planet kidnapping suspects.

All of us who desperately try to leave our homes using streets that enter Kuehner Drive can hardly wait for more traffic to come our way! But, no need to worry anytime soon, even if this project is approved, since the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation surely holds the record for the longest construction projects known in modern times.

The Plaza Del Sol apartment complex was in progress for close to four years before being occupied, and the 25-home development on Kuehner is just now being framed — three years after grading!

Slave music tells story

Re: your Nov. 15 article, “Cotton-picking song pulled from concert:

The article refers to comments and action taken by Greg Montgomery: “It’s mind-boggling that people don’t understand sensitive issues.

His daughter, China, said, “They were bringing back the memories of how African-Americans picked cotton, and it wasn’t a good memory. It was disrespectful to African-Americans.

What is mind-boggling to me is that someone will bury their ancestry in shame and ignore the great music that they developed.

Archaic punishment

Re: Tim Hansen’s Dec. 5 letter, “Williams’ execution supported:

It seems that Mr. Hansen wants to see Stanley “Tookie Williams executed because of some archaic fundamentalist type of revenge.

The United States is one of the very few civilized countries that still has the death penalty, which absolutely makes no sense when it’s cheaper to put someone in prison for life with no chance of parole, and even less sense since new DNA evidence has cleared so many people who were on death row waiting for the needle. This makes me wonder how many other innocent ones have been put to death already.

Forceps, not scissors

The article that covered what is now being allowed in carry-on luggage explained  that 4-inch-long pointed scissors are off the forbidden list. The picture of the “scissors was that of a pair of forceps.

Dirty electricity

Re: your Dec. 2 article, “Battery powered:

Your front-page picture shows Bruce Tucker charging up his electric car. The caption reads, “Weaning off foreign oil and getting cleaner air and a healthier environment …

Electricity doesn’t come out of a socket. It comes from a polluting power plant that is most often oil-fired.

Electric cars actually cause more pollution than gasoline cars because there are energy losses when you transmit electricity over power lines.

Law must be changed

I was not overly surprised that most of the propositions on which we voted last month were defeated, with the exception of Proposition 73, which would have required parental notification (not permission) for an underage girl to have an abortion at least 48 hours before the “procedure was done.

Under today’s laws, if I had a 15-year old daughter, she could not legally smoke a cigarette, drink a beer, drive a car, see an R-rated movie alone, or even take an aspirin at school. She could, however, undergo a serious medical procedure which could endanger her life as well as end the life of another human being, without her mother or I even being told.

East County crowding

I have lived in Ventura County for most of my life. I have raised my children in Newbury Park. I have sadly watched as Newbury Park was transformed from a small, friendly and quiet community into a noisy, overcrowded mess. I no longer awake to the sounds of birds, but I awake to traffic noise on Lynn Road.

I used to drive through the Highway 101-23 connector without even thinking about putting my foot on the brakes. Now it takes between 30 minutes and 45 minutes to drive home from work through Westlake and the 23 connector.

Re: Clive Leeman’s Nov. 29 letter, “Williams is innocent:

In regards to Clive Leeman’s letter asking the governor to spare Stanley “Tookie Williams’ life, I have to ask if Mr. Leeman has done any research on Stanley “Tookie Williams’ life? Mr. Leeman did mention that Williams was a “founder of the Crips gang, which in itself is probably not illegal, but what are street gangs known for? How does one become a member of a gang? It is common knowledge that in order to join, one must commit a crime in front of other gang members (for witnesses). Has Mr. Leeman ever heard of the term “accessory to the crime? Common law traditionally considers an accessory just as guilty as the principal in a crime and subject to the same penalties. Now tell me Williams is innocent.

Re: Margaret Morris’ Dec. 2 letter, “Priesthood problems:

Morris is arguing a straw man.

Where did the pope ever say he was barring the entry of gays into the seminary because of pedophilia? The Catholic Church has teachings about the errors of homosexual activity, just as it has teachings against alcoholism. Practicing alcoholics aren’t admitted to the priesthood either. Why is no one crying “Injustice! over that? Instead, we jump on the politically correct bandwagon to attack an institution that has stayed true to her doctrines since her establishment.

As Ms. Livingston requested, I have done “a little research on Wal-Mart.

My sister lives in New Mexico, where the only grocery store not only had very high prices, but was dirty and disorganized. Now, she and her neighbors are thrilled to have a beautiful, clean, organized store with affordable prices — a Wal-Mart.

Where is justice?

Why did the California Supreme Court refuse to hear the case of Stanley “Tookie Williams? The evidence is clear that he did not get a fair trial. Where can he obtain justice? Where can we see justice done? What is our legal system really about? Has this country lost all heart and purpose?

Medicare changes

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

In the media attention about the changes to Medicare, the emphasis has been placed on the impact to seniors. In fact, the new Medicare Part D will impact all Medicare beneficiaries, including beneficiaries with disabilities who are under the age of 65.

Do you use durable medical equipment? What type of prescriptions, if any, are you taking? How often do you visit your doctor? It is the answers to questions like these that will determine the plan you want to choose. It is important that all Medicare beneficiaries take an active role in choosing their plan. Otherwise, Medicare may put them in a plan that does not meet their needs.

Is cactus the answer?

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

With all the rising oil prices and concern over the future energy needs of the United States, I, naturally, tried to put together something of a solution.

As usual, when I contacted the U.S. government with my idea, I was ignored.

Be that as it may, I’m pretty well convinced that part of the solution to America’s future energy needs lies substantially in genetically altering some of the native cactus/succulent (and/or other) plants of the American Southwest so as to render them high-sugar content, robustly growing plants from which ethanol can be economically produced to substitute for petroleum products currently employed as transportation, heating and electrical energy-producing fuels.

Right to be American

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Will we still be the country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries who came to live in America because it is the country of choice? Think about it.

All I have to say is, when will they do something about my rights?

I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn’t celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say “Merry Christmas. Now it has to be “Seasons Greetings. It’s not Christmas vacation, it’s Winter Break. Isn’t it amazing how this winter break always occurs over the Christmas holiday? We’ve gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended! But it seems that no one has a problem with that.
