Hooray for the naysayers! With their arms crossed and heads buried in the sand, they scream at us, “It won’t work! But do they offer anything in return? Not usually.
With the latest hot-button issue — hybrids — I’ve never heard anyone state that present hybrids are the final answer to pollution. They are simply one current attempt to reduce our dependence on oil and the internal combustion engine.
The hybrids of today are far better than the cars made earlier; in the future, hybrids will be even more improved. The point is that some people are at work trying to solve a pollution problem.
There are also those who deny that glaciers and polar caps are melting or that global warming is occurring. From the opinion of scientists, photographs, and the real possibility soon of a new and real Northwest Passage, there is little doubt that we are experiencing a warming trend. We may argue over whether it is a natural weather change or whether humans are the culprits, but do we want to sit back and do nothing just in case it is being caused by humans? I would think we owe our children and grandchildren some responsibility to act. Again, there are people at work trying to reduce the effect of global warming.
Human history has been full of people who were unable to see anything beyond their noses. With our planet and standard of living at stake, I would think more of us might be doing something about it rather than simply criticizing what is being done by others.
