Time to learn Spanish

Re: your April 2 article, “Undocumented drive wedge in Ventura County:

What a depressing read! Sunday’s newspaper only confirms what dire straits this country is in. There are millions of illegal aliens costing the taxpayers billions of dollars, and there’s no end in sight.

One article was honest enough to tell the real story. The illegal alien flood has destroyed what used to be called the trade industry and caused the bankrupting or closure of many emergency rooms. Older folks can remember the days when a high school graduate could actually learn a trade and make a decent living as a plumber, carpenter, etc., and when you went to the emergency room because there was actually an emergency and not a waiting room full of folks with a cold and no desire to pay for the services.

Now we are told by Mexican President Vincente Fox and our own politicians that we cannot survive without even more of them. Oh, and we are racists for not liking it. And here’s the punch line: Our elected officials at all levels could care less. The Democrats want their votes and the Republicans want the cheap labor. They are all millionaires who don’t live in our world anyway, so they have no appreciation for what we face each day.

We seem to have only two choices. We can actually enforce laws against companies that keep the flood coming, thereby not having to hire citizens and pay them a decent wage, or we can learn Spanish. Judging by the attitudes of our current administration, I suggest everyone enroll in night school to learn Spanish.
