Re: your July 12 article, “Port District ‘error’ spells end of short dream for builder:
The article about the latest error by the Oxnard Harbor District continues to raise doubts about whether anyone can trust the current port commissioners with issues that affect our daily lives.
What happened this weekend is a typical example of poor governance on behalf of my community. Rather than proactively clearing up misinformation provided to the city, the district mentions the "clerical error" only in response to a public comment, demonstrating once again both the arrogant and apathetic attitude the Oxnard Harbor District has toward the citizens of Port Hueneme — an attitude I have personally witnessed over and over again in district meetings since December.
When a community's hopes about its future hang in the balance, the port's so-called clerical error is significant. It continues to cast doubt on whether anyone can trust the Board of Harbor Commissioners to ask the right questions and seek solutions to balance the interests of the port and the communities it serves.
If those numbers were provided to the city as a starting point and later corrected, then can anyone trust any numbers the port provides on a regular basis regarding imported cars and its economic growth? Can anyone trust the vehicle facility environmental impact report that was conducted for the Hueneme Road property in the first place? Can anyone trust their acclaimed "analyses" of the alternative sites for this vehicle facility?
Finally, should anyone continue to trust the Oxnard Five — the harbor commissioners — with the fate of the Port Hueneme community?
