Re: Larry Godwin’s July 3 letter, “LNG’s OK, but salts aren’t? in response to Howard Smith’s June 25 commentary, “Salts dumped in river threaten V.C. economy:
It's hard to appreciate that Larry Godwin agreed with my commentary when he uses his letter to jump on a soapbox and intentionally distort the Ventura County Economic Development Association’s position on liquefied natural gas — a position available on the Web site: http://www.vceda.org/issues.html.
The VCEDA board has clearly stated that support for any LNG project is conditional upon its meeting all safety and environmental standards. Remember, we live, work and raise our families here too.
The sad reality is that people like Larry Godwin are clueless when it comes to understanding the complexities of global energy and the needs of our region. Had he bothered to come to VCEDA's energy symposium, "The Politics of Power," last year with keynote speakers such as Lois Capps and Paul Roberts, he might have learned something. But then again, the truth might have gotten in the way of his simplistic lies and distortions.
