Residing on the border of Oxnard and Port Hueneme has allowed my neighbors and me to experience the poor handling of the cities’ public works departments to its citizens.
The Redwood Trunk Sewer Project has been on going day and night for more than two years, with noise, dirt and damage to our homes, and there is no end in sight. Yet neither city has yet to send a single letter, post a single note to residents’ front doors or come knock on a few doors to invite a conversation to residents explaining what to expect, apologizing for disturbing the roads, streets and sidewalks, cutting down trees, waking the young and the elderly and more.
The latest is the pipe work being done on the corner of Patterson Road and Hemlock Street. The construction crews have been starting work earlier than their permitted time — 7 a.m. — and they work past their permitted end time — 7 p.m. — repeatedly with not a single phone call returned from either city’s public works department. I know they’re doing the needed work, but must they be this insensitive to residents who pay taxes to support the work?
