Re: your July 6 article, “Europe leading the way to shrinking population�:
It is interesting that the article talked about dire consequences for the aging population, but not one sentence was given to the question of why this happened, of what the cause or causes might be. Could that be because nobody in the mainstream media wants to discuss the two 900-pound elephants in the living room - easy abortion and contraception for the last 30 to 40 years?
The article makes a point of stating that the United States is the fastest-growing industrialized nation in the world. Again, the author offers no speculation as to the possible reasons for this phenomenon. Could one of the reasons possibly be that immigration into the United States, together with a high immigrant birthrate in groups that generally don't use abortion or contraception, is higher than the number of citizens who are having abortions and practicing contraception?
The illegal immigration debate going on now shouldn't be about who will mow our yards and raise our children for us, but rather who will run our nursing homes and take us to the doctors.
We reap what we sow.
