No apology needed

Re: Joe R. Howry’s July 30 essay, “A tale of two news calls:

In my opinion, it was not necessary for you to apologize for the story on the two teens.

It's news, and it's true life. If readers have a problem with a story in my favorite newspaper, they write letters in protest. That's freedom of expression. But when readers demand an apology and the editor apologizes and promises not to let it happen again, now that to me is leading to censorship.

How do you determine what is moral or not? Is The Star going to quit covering the Iraq war or the debate on abortion? Every story, editorial or opinion is going to upset some Star readers.

Will the editor now have to apologize for everything that is written in The Star when someone is offended? I hope not.

News is news but, in my opinion, it is totally irresponsible of a newspaper that is the only game in town, to prominently feature and glorify a situation that is against the social mores of the majority of our society. It is becoming more and more accepted for children to have children with no thought to how these kids will be raised. Do the parents have secure jobs? Do they have the education to obtain secure jobs? Who will pay for the health needs of this child? Most likely, we taxpayers will foot most if not all of the bill.

No corporation nor small-business, no matter how altruistic (or profit-driven) will provide "secure jobs".

Children have been having children for... oh, about "brazillion" years. And the children didn't choose their lives...

Time to remember that old Nash song: Teach Your Children Well. As they say, follow the link and "read the whole thing."

If they were a oil company the republicans would give them a tax break.
