Agencies need humility

One government agency bad-mouthing another while ensconced on its own turf
is not a pretty sight. Such was the case in Port Hueneme on September 20. The displays of self-righteousness were a wonder to behold.

To those who have been paying attention, the claims of presiding over open government ring hollow. They certainly have not always been open-minded and respectful of the views of its citizens. There are many reasons to criticize the Oxnard Harbor District commissioners. If there is a more representative way to select members of the commission, then by all means pursue it. If things can be made better in the short term by more cooperation between the city and the harbor, then have at it. But if the city pursues this last endeavor with the same attitude that was on display September 20, then don't hold your breath.

If I could offer one gift to those who represent Port Hueneme in all this, it would be humility.
