I thank The Star for this informative article on immigrant labor. I wish everyone in the country could read it.
The farmers rely on immigrant labor, and that was what made the bracero program so attractive. The workers would come and make money and go home, not bringing their families with the children needing schooling, medical services, etc.
I know these are hard-working people, and if I were in their shoes, I would be at the head of the line to cross the border. The problem is these numbers are not sustainable. With 11 million illegal immigrants here now and more coming every day, we must find a way to control our border.
Bring back some form of the old bracero program.
