On a recent Sunday, we were down at Channel Islands Harbor enjoying the farmer's market and a classic auto show. Both of these events were extremely well-attended and enjoyable. But, I was ashamed of our harbor.
There should have been more public restrooms for a group this size. Lucky for me, one of the boaters had a key to a restroom and unlocked the door.
There should have been shops and restaurants opened along the harbor for all these visitors to enjoy. Instead we have these vacant restaurant buildings and docks that look like they are ready to sink. The old Charlie Brown’s restaurant is in disrepair, and it doesn’t look like any effort is being made to rebuild the old Sea Fresh. It is just an empty lot. That restaurant burned down a long time ago, and there should be some evidence of something being rebuilt. On the other side of the harbor, the old Left Bank looks like it is ready to fall down. At one time, that was an excellent restaurant.
Fisherman's Wharf has a whole row of empty shops. Why can't those shops be fixed up and rented? Is the county doing something to discourage people from renting those shops? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Please fix up our harbor and make it an asset to Ventura County.
