What a pleasure it is to drive across Ventura on newly resurfaced Foothill Road and Poli Street. It is great to see our city spend taxes on improvements that we can all enjoy — almost.
As you know, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., you are prevented from completing your commute on Foothill and Poli due to the barricade at Ventura High School. Although it was claimed to be a “temporary fix 13 years ago when Proposition A passed, the city and the school have chosen to continue this blockade the majority of every year.
Wouldn’t it be a better fix to erect a “School Zone 25 MPH sign and add stop lights activated by pedestrians, like most other schools do? Ironically, during the time of this “temporary fix, thousands of vehicles have been forced to divert around the school onto other streets, impacting traffic, especially in the residential area above the school, where irate drivers speed through narrow streets, endangering the lives of young children.
If you are frustrated at the city for denying your right to fully utilize this beautiful street — a street that your taxes paid for — then go to www.ci.ventura.ca.us and then call the number for your council member and demand action.
