I attended the Nov. 6 meeting of the board of directors of the Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District and was appalled by the views and comments of newly elected board member Bob Kelley regarding a new and decent dog park in Camarillo. He stated that he felt the district’s parks should be for use by people, not dogs.
What Kelley failed to realize is that dogs are accompanied by their “human owners who are enjoying the park as much as their dogs, while socializing with other owners.
There are more than 150 dog parks in California. Apparently, these other jurisdictions do not share Kelley’s views on park use. In fact, his fellow director, President Patty Hamm, stated that the Thousand Oaks dog park is the most popular park in that district and is used by the most people.
Camarillo needs a new, modern and safe dog park for both owners and dogs to enjoy. I wonder: If Kelley’s views on parks and dogs had been known prior to the election, would he be a director now? I would hope not.
