Re: your May 27 letters and Pulse page:
Did The Star look at its letters to the editor on Sunday? I am assuming it has discretion over what letters to print.
First, Susan Elizabeth Strassel’s “Emergency-room crisis: This is news? This person wants to know how it can be solved. Doesn’t she know that our government does not want it solved?
Next, William L. Hammaker’s “Department of Peace: This is a real joke. It goes with Bruce Marshall’s “Democrats capitulating on the Pulse page, and The Star put in several of those.
To cap it all off was John L. Thawley’s “Spend war money on U.S. How old a saw is that?
All of these problems could be solved if the American public would toss out Congress, which is supposed to represent us, and put in a new bunch. It boggles my mind that Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass, has been in the Senate for 43 years, making the same mistakes time after time.

Great comments, Ms. Adam.
The biggest problem is that people will take the time to vocally complain to their friends and families about our U.S. Congress and President and the way our federal government is ignoring the wishes of the American people. Heck they may even take a second to go online and write a letter to the editor commenting on their complaint. But will they take the time to do what it takes to create change and fix the problem? NO! Sadly, many people simply prefer to complain versus doing something to be part of the solution. They prefer that someone else takes the time and effort to fix the problem. Their problem.
They can pick up the phone and call their U.S. Senators, Representatives, and even the White House to voice their objections and concerns. But do these people do this? NO!
They can pop a letter into the fax machine and send it to the offices of these elected leadership. But do they do this? NO!
They can go online to the U.S. Government's website and use their handy-dandy links to send an email to any of our U.S. Senators, Representatives and even The President. But do they do this? NO!
They can get to the polling stations on election day and vote out any elected officials running for re-election who are not doing their job in representing our best interests (i.e. Ted Kennedy perfect example!). But do they do go vote? No!
Frankly, as far as I'm concerned if people don't want to take the time to be part of a solution to a problem... and instead choose to sit back and and wait for someone else to come to the rescue... then I don't want to hear their complaints!
Yes, great comments, Carole. Teddy Kennedy never did anything worthwhile in his 40+ years of drinking from the public trough. In the past few years, the Republicans seems to have lost their taste for opposing what are clearly flawed policies. I have written a letter regarding the Senate solution to the illegal immigration problem which I am attempting to place in hands where it might get appreciable exposure. My approach is to try and get rid of ANY republican congressmen who will not crack down on illegals. I will vote for an independent who does not back amnesty or entitlements for illegals and barring that, I will withhold my vote entirely rather than see a spineless candidate get that vote. I should add I have been a Republican voter on the national level all my life.
