Negative news necessary

Re: Bill O’Reilly’s Oct. 27 commentary, “The sun has apparently set on the Sundance Kid:

O’Reilly, the really good American, seems to view the 70 percent of Americans who see President Bush as the guy who screwed up royally by going into Iraq as bad Americans. And God forbid anyone mention the obvious or make a movie about Bush’s tragic and deadly Iraq boondoggle for fear that the rest of the world will view America negatively.

The fact is, most Americans didn’t vote for Bush and don’t like what he’s doing in Iraq — and just about every other person in the world doesn’t either. If O’Reilly was anything other than a paid shill for the Bush administration and right-wing politics, he’d do the stand-up thing for America and speak the truth. If he did, of course, Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox, would cut him off at the knees.

Fox News won a lawsuit brought against it by two of its reporters that upheld Fox’s right to order its reporters to lie to the American people. My guess is that the 30 percent or fewer of the people supporting Bush on the war have isolated their exposure to stories on world events to Fox News and right-wing distortion radio.

Turn off Fox News, and if O’Reilly tells you not to see a movie, then it’s probably a must-see.
