What to know about where to go this week

Wassup 805? Bill Locey here, neither in Studio 805 nor in Camarillo, but still gainfully employed by the Ventura County Star, at least for the next hour or two, kicking at my house, multi-tasking, writing about rock 'n' roll, watching the new season of "River Monsters" with the sound off and petting my cat, Nope, who is on my lap and as usual, in the way and doing his fair share as part of the worldwide feline anti-literacy campaign.

If I had a faster car, a richer girlfriend or even one with a job, here's where I'll be lurking in the back this week:

OK, tonight - Friday night in Ventura at my favorite dive bar - it's the Kill Junkies rocking the Red Cove in Midtown Ventura while not to far away, Teresa Russell will demonstrate the art of shredding on that guitar at the Savory Cafe while down at Zoey's, it's singer/songwriter Delaney Gibson and at the weekly blues blast down at Yolie's in Ventura - it's Sugar Ray Rayford.

On Saturday it's Eric Sardinas playing some bluesy rock at the cavernous Canyon Club in

Tommy Castro

Agoura Hills, then there's way more blues at the 7th Annual Simi Valley Blues Festival. So how does someone get the blues in Simi Valley - no convenient parking at the mall? Why ask why? Anyway, it's all happening at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch featuring Tommy Castro, Curtis Salgado, the Delgado Brothers and more. Shaky Feelin' will do their jam band thing at the Tipsy Goat in Thousand Oaks. And finally, those rockin' rodents in Mouse Grey will play an acoustic set at the Red Cove - still in Ventura.

On Sunday, it's Dr. M playing some foot-friendly dance music up all those stairs at the Watermark in Ventura - no dress code on Sundays - while a few blocks away, all those Shoemaker Brothers will be at the Bombay Bar & Grill.

On Monday - they're back playing uptempo pop punk and a new album - that would be Eve 6 at the legendary Troubadour in Hell-A, while up here in the 805 where we like it, Aaron Orbit will conclude his Monday night residency at Billy O's in Ventura while a few miles up Main Street, Happens Again will happen again at the Good Bar on Main Street next to the movie theatre.

On Tuesday, it's those rock gods in Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl, and doing an encore on Wednesday. And White Denim will do their groovy indie rock thing at SOhO in Santa Barbara - that's Tuesday night.

White Denim - Drug from One Story Productions on Vimeo.

On Wednesday, it's entertaining indie rock from Cage the Elephant at the Mayan Theatre in Hell-A,

James Morrisonwhile up here in the 805 where we like it or until Oxnard paves everything, it's acoustic guitar pyrotechnics at the Good Bar with Mark Masson and Bruce Kimmel. That All-Star Blues Jam thing is happening at the Bombay and it's Acoustic Open Mic Night at Zoey's while over the Green Art People gig Ventura Avenue, it's Hippie Mark & the Total Strangers.

OK, almost done - on Thursday - it's James Morrison doing his bluesy rock thing at the Avalon in Hollyweird - no Jim Morrison action there and finally on a Thursday, it's Jonathan McEuen at the Big Buddha Lounge in beautiful downtown Oak View. OK, that's the end of all that. For now...

Rockin' Roll Call
Bill Locey reviews music for the Ventura County Star, when he isn't reenacting the history of this great nation or teaching it to incarcerated youth.
He is the tall guy lurking in the back of all the local rock shows.
