Rock 'n' Roll Call: Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Celebration Rock

The latest from the Japandroids is "Celebration Rock" and it's on Polyvinyl Records. It's a low budget, low tech duo from Canada - Brian King on guitars and David Prowse hits the drums, just as if they were in some garage down the alley from the Count Five and the Seeds in 1966. All you need to know about these guys is that they cover "For the Love of Ivy" by the Gun Club from their "Fire of Love" album in the early '80s. It's not as good as the original but hey - they covered a Gun Club song. The other tunes are uniformly rough, rowdy, raucous and raggedy.
