Rock 'n' Roll Call: Sonny & the Sunsets - Longtime Companion

Longtime Companion

The latest from Sonny & the Sunsets is "Longtime Companion" and it's on Polyvinyl Records. Loved their last one, this one? Not so much. It's a country pop album, consisting of too many songs that don't work. "Pretend You Love Me" is evidently, the first single - but a flute solo? I'm getting homicidal yoga flashbacks where yoga makes you feel better but the soundtrack could convince Mother Teresa to draw a switchblade. Anyway, "Year of the Cock" is another tune with a half baked idea poorly developed as Sonny's grasp does not exceed his reach.

He is the tall guy lurking in the back of all the local rock shows.
