In 1968, the very surreal Firesign Theatre released its debut album, "Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him." If one were to apply that thought (whatever it was) to music, then the wait is nearly over -- electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream, still plugged into the cerebral cartwheels and the deft digits of leader Edgar Froese, will be blowing people's minds Monday night at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara. It's all part of TD's Electric Mandarine Tour.
Tangerine Dream's 1967 debut laid the groundwork for electronic music, techno and all those one-named DJs -- not to mention krautrock and, yes, even the dreaded New Age genre. So every time Gotye or Tiësto plugs in, they should send Froese a dollar, at least. Read more »
