Rock 'n' Roll Call: Shovels and Rope - O' Be Joyful

O' Be Joyful

The new one from Shovels and Rope is "O' Be Joyful" and it's on mighty, mighty Dualtone. It's low tech country folk from Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent who sing up a storm on these sad slice of life tunes about places you're glad you're not at. Then again, you'll be glad to add this one to your collection - chock full of low budget, sweaty and sexy big time thrills - this is gonna be one of the best of the year and definitely worth a trip to Hell-A in August, but way better at Zoey's in Ventura. These two would also be great with the Blasters or the Avett Brothers. "Hail Hail" and "Tickin' Bomb" are about has hard as a duo can rock, the title tune is a keeper and "Kemba's Got the Cabbage Moth Blues" could be a worthy companion to Johnny Bond's "Hot Rod Lincoln." Love them.
