No matter what your position is on health care legislation, too many Americans are losing too much of their hard-earned assets when they or their families inevitably get sick. Exorbitant medical bills are draining the color out of the rosy American dream. It's a good thing that musicians routinely stand up and do the right thing to help. To that end, Nickelodeon heartthrob Drake Bell will have the tweener girls all atwitter and screamy when he headlines a fundraiser for Kimberly Alvarez, who needs help with medical treatment. Rock-solid bluesy rockers Hot Roux are also on the bill, among others.
It's yet another heartbreaking, scary story. Thirteen months ago, Kimberly and her ex-Marine husband, Matt, were eagerly awaiting the birth of their first child. Right near the magic moment, Kimberly was stuck with a bout of amniotic fluid embolism, a sort of stroke. Usually, the victim dies. Kimberly did not, but she's still receiving care for brain injuries while daughter Sophie is just fine, and now, 13 months old. Obviously, this ain't cheap.
