The new Maps & Atlases is "Beware And Be Grateful" on Barsuk Records. Not only is this sound advice for sure because to know where you're going, you need to know where you've been - don't be a stubborn stupid dude and fail to ask directions, so check a map - they know where stuff is. The first one, "Old & Gray" is too forced and affected by some strange idea that gray is a four syllable word, whatever. Wikipedia, which never lies and is always right, called this "math rock." I had to look it up. It's guitar driven experimental rock and mostly, I don't care much for the examples cited, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Frank Zappa, Rush, the Mahavishnu Orchestra. King Crimson etc. The songs are sort of jazzy and spacey and all over the place, but the guitars by Erin Elders and Dave Davison will command your attention and the solos at the end of "Silver Self" would make the Feelies proud. "Bugs" also demonstrates some amazing digital dexterity from a band worth a listen.
