"Prophet" is the latest from yet another Portland band - this one Ramona Falls and it's on Barsuk Records. Unwrapping this one presents an origami nightmare - even to those who are not Captain Hook. This is the second album by Brent Knopf and his pals and you gotta hand it to him for writing a song about Archimedes, just as Phish got points for finding a rhyme for Osiris (papyrus) and Rhett Miller once sang about plate tectonics. However, too many of these are your basic, noodling indie rock songs that will have your mind wandering to other things as they lack the urgency to grab-you-by-the-ear and demand your attention. The guitar jam at the end of "Brevony" is pretty cool, but mostly - as with so many others - back to Songwriting 101.
