The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy

Nada Surf is a 20-year old indie rock band out of New York - this is album Number Seven and love the title - "The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy" and it's on Barsuk Records. These are mellow little pop tunes from like '82 R.E.M. maybe, with laid back vocals and jangly, subtle guitars and uniformly endearing. The band is also reminiscent of that seriously sad surf story - "Man, you shoulda been here yesterday..." Hate when that happens. "Clear Eye Clouded Mind" and "Teenage Dream" are a couple of the good ones on an album with no bad cuts. The waves may've been better yesterday (they always are) but this band is real good right now.

He is the tall guy lurking in the back of all the local rock shows.
