Jumping through not a thing -- except maybe with her voice -- Jesca Hoop will stop by Zoey's in Ventura Saturday night to play a few off her third and latest full-length album, "The House That Jack Built." The first one on the new one is "Born To," and, evidently, Hoop definitely was born to sing.
These days, every waiter, dog walker and personal assistant in Los Angeles who is not writing a screenplay is a songwriter. Hoop lived their dream by getting her demo played on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Electric" -- the radio show that frequently reaches all the way to the yellow brick road. Since then, she's toured with Eels, Andrew Bird, Polyphonic Spree and Mark Knopfler. She even sang backup for Peter Gabriel last year on his New Blood tour. Expanding one's horizons thusly seems a good way to create a long career in an uncertain industry.
