Along with Madonna, Moses and Godzilla, Ojai-based singer-songwriter Lissie is a firm believer in the concept of one-name brevity. She'll headline a benefit tonight for downtrodden kids from one of the unluckiest and saddest places on earth, Haiti. All this goodwill will emanate from the friendly confines of the Libbey Bowl, right in the middle of hippie, happy Ojai. The gig is a benefit for the Changing Tides Orphanage in Haiti.
Lissie is a Midwestern girl who came west to be a rock star. Not only did that work out fairly quickly -- long before her L.A. rivals gave up on their delusions of grandeur and embraced the Zen of waiting tables -- but Lissie was able to skedaddle from down south to live in Ojai. Although she plays a local small venue now and again, this gig is sort of like her official big new-hometown debut.
