TimeOut: 'Station' break

Sometimes Monday morning productivity, considered in the sense of the overall scheme of the cosmos, is not really so important. Here comes just such a scenario. Unlike the recent Perseid Meteor Shower, which was a fizzle in many backyards, look for plenty of fireworks during an inspired double bill on Sunday night featuring Alejandro Escovedo and Jesse Malin at Velvet Jones in Santa Barbara. It's worth the drive to see either of these guys, but both? This one is clearly a cultural landslide and you can work extra hard on Tuesday.

Yet another talented musician from Texas, Escovedo has been around a long time and he's got stories to tell. He's clearly in possession of the music gene; several of his brothers are in bands and Sheila E. is his niece. Escovedo was in the legendary punk band the Nuns and was a founding member of cowpunk luminaries Rank and File way back in the early '80s.
