Pinback's latest is an advance called "Information Retrieved," due out on 16 October on Temporary Residence - or if you can't wait, the band will be at the venerable Ventura Theatre on 13 September. It's folk rock smartly done - there's some CS&N in there and also a lot of progressive rock themes - I'm hearing some Yes in there, maybe - or Yup if in Texas. This San Diego duo has been at it since 1998 and this is album Number Five from Ron Crow - and gotta love this handle - Armistead Burwell Smith IV. Their vocals are flawless and this one improves with each listening and just misses being a great one as their reach does not quite match their grasp.
