Wassup 805? Bill Locey here, neither in Studio 805 nor in Camarillo, but still gainfully employed by the Ventura County Star, at least for the next hour or two, kicking it at my house, multi-tasking, writing about rock 'n' roll, watching TCM with the sound off and petting my cat, Nope, who is on my lap and as usual, in the way and doing his fair share as part of the worldwide feline anti-literacy campaign.
If I had a faster car, a richer girlfriend or even one with a job, here's where's I'll be lurking in the back this week:
OK, tonight, Friday night, We Govern We will play some Greek/American rock all over the Sans Souci in Ventura while just steps away, the Legalizers will play some reggae up all those stairs at the Watermark at the corner of Chestnut and Main. Two blocks north, Teresa Russell will do her guitar goddess thing at the Savory Cafe, and Grant Langston & the Super Models will play some rockin' blues at Yolie's, across from Avenue Von's. And finally on a Friday, it's the Preachers playing some rockin' blues at the Jester and all 29 Mules will be playing some raucous country rock at the Hub - both a block apart in Ojai.
On Saturday, Brother Sal will get real as he rocks Zoey's in Ventura and He's My Brother She's My Sister will play some nepotism rules, indie rock at SOhO in Santa Barbara. Jennifer Terran will do something trippy at the Barn and still without any spelling skills but lots of hits - Def Leppard will be at the Santa Barbara County Bowl.
On Sunday, it's Urban Dread playing some reggae at the Lab Brewing Company in Agoura, while up here in the 805 where we like or until Oxnard paves it all - the Privateers will be at the Watermark - that's about as close as it gets to those who miss Raging Arb and Frank Barajas will do his one man pop rock thing at Tutti's in Ventura.
On Tuesday - they're great but they're far away - it's the Airborne Toxic Event at the legendary Troubadour in Hell-A.
On Wednesday, harmonica player Lee Koch will be at Zoey's - Frank Barajas will at the Big Buddha Lounge in beautiful downtown Oak View and Blame Sally will tear it up acoustically at SOhO in Santa Barbara. Short week, or what?
