ONE OF THE THINGS I find most troubling about the blogosphere is it provides a platform for anonymous posters to leave destructive, inaccurate comments and then sneak away giggling in their anonymity, unchallenged and unrepentant. It adds nothing to our community dialogue
Some of these posts remind me of the stuff I used to read scrawled inside the bathroom stalls in junior high, a good analogy for what is going on these days. A fellow writer up at the San Francisco Chronicle recently wrote a column that summed it all up beautifully. Cyber trash is one of my pet peeves and I see it out on the Star's main site comments every day.
I love the free exchange of information and opinion that blogs provide, but please think before you post. I hold myself to the same standards: If I ever post something that you know to be inaccurate, email me right away and I'll fix it. You are welcome to disagree with my opinion, but I ask that you use solid facts to back yourself up.

You're right anonymous cyber thugs are ruining the good name of blogs everywhere. I am chuckling all the time, and I must hide my name or risk the firebombing of my home. Have you ever heard of Animal Liberation Front, or some of the supposed Pro-Choice murderers?
Of course, I hope that was just a joke. I really do like the exchange of ideas. It's sad when you can't understand the frustration of the propaganda and spin on both sides of the aisle. I hope you don't think any of my attacks are attacks. They are statements, made by someone who has been involved in the politics in question, and know certain things that most in the general public are not privy to. If you ever email me, personally, and stay off the record, I could tell you some really awful stories about both parties, but I consider myself to be financially conservative, and hate to see people in my district be led to believe that the only way out of financial crises is to borrow and tax more. I love California and Ventura county, and without intense debate, I may have never learned the lessons I have over the years.
You provide a great forum. Don't be discouraged because you disagree with some people who comment on your blog. This is America, where you can say whatever you want, and you can even edit out the comments you don't like since it is your blog. I support your right to free speech. There shouldn't ever be a fairness doctrine for your blog Marie.
Not discouraged. I am just reacting to the piece I posted, which I liked, and am troubled by some stuff I'm seeing out on the Star's main site. Also, a week ago I had to remove something disturbing directed at one of our female bloggers.
I am hoping we can rise above the level of some of the things I see out there which are not productive. It's a lofty goal of mine.
