Ah yes.. I know this site well. I've even added a few entries. California actually has a definition of a speedtrap and I'd bet this is to keep them out of legal hot water.
The last time I was caught, the officer claimed it wasn't a trap, but he was not in plain view either. He was behind a bush at the end of a passing lane. They know full well that drivers need to accelerate to pass and they exploit that fact.
Even the officer admitted it was a raw deal as he continued to write my citation.
