As luck would have it for Oaks Christian High, its boys' basketball team is playing in a tournament only 12 miles away from where the football team is playing Morro Bay tonight.
The basketball team just beat Villa Park 64-55 to improve to 2-0 in pool play at the San Luis Obispo Kiwanis Tournament.
The players are taking showers at the Embassy Suites, grabbing a bite to eat and packing into the vans to attend the football team.
Both Lions teams are hoping the game is in hand by halftime because the basketball team plays Monte Vista tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
"We will gauge when we need to leave the game," Oaks Christian basketball coach Tom Roanhaus said. "These kids need to get in bed early to get up at 6:45 and get breakfast at 7 and be on the floor running up and down at 9."
Roanhaus joked last week he would have the team walk to the football game if it lost. But the players didn't have to test his sense of humor.
"They are excited to support their classmates," he said. "The athletes at this school really support each other."
