Santa Clara's record-setting running back Cierre Wood was named as the Division IV state player of the year by MaxPreps.com.
Wood was one of two dozen area players honored on the Web site's four all-state teams.
Wood rushed for 1,627 yards, scored 26 TDs and started on defense for the Saints.
