I have followed High School sports (Rio Mesa) for over 30 years. My kids are finally at Rio Mesa and I was excited for them to be there.Great academics and athletics. One of my kids play baseball. We had thought about sending him to Cornerstone but felt the baseball program at Rio Mesa may be just what he needs. It was sad to see the final outcome of this season. It is a real shame what has happened to this baseball program over the past 15+ years. Rio Mesa has always had a great pool of talent but seems as if they never use it correctly to win big. They have hired coaches that are not proven winners. In the late 80's Rio Mesa Hired Richard Duran. Richard Duran was only hired because he was "Mr. Rio Mesa" in the 70's and a big booster Ernie Almanza wanted him as the coach. He had not coached a day in his life before that time. Now you have a clone, David Solis who played for Richard Duran. Again, not a proven winner on the field. Sure League championships are are good for some schools but when you look back at Rio Mesa in the 80's it was a "DYNASTY", everyone wanted to beat them. This year you are given a league championship by default and you can't beat a lower rank team to get out of the first round. If the school and the parents are happy with a league title here and there and out in the first round then good for you. If you want to return to the glory and the command we once had in the 80's then I call for a change in coaching. It may be time for Rio Mesa to dig deep and look for the proven winners like Zeke and Dick Jaquez, Pat Machado, Rich Herrera or John Castellanos were. All these men have CIF championships in their blood. Change needs to be done now.

I read the comments by Alex Cordova about the Rio Mesa baseball program. As much as I love and stick by Rio Mesa I would have to agree with the comments Alex Cordova made. Being a proud alumnus i do also think it is time for a change in the baseball program. Rio Mesa baseball has set high standards for themself back in the 80's and this is not getting it done. We need and aggressive and a coach who has experience a CIF title.

hi every one.yes I have to agree rio mesa needs a change.I played ball for many years.and won championships with ball players no one wanted.also I know mr duran and ernie personaly.I have many friends around several counties.ernie does not have no say anymore.I would call for a change.I just want to add something else if i may.the elrio little league field is in bad condition.no one seems to care anymore.i live up north now and love it.I do have to say better late than never.make the change.thank you.
