Today's baseball

The Camarillo High baseball team has a straightforward task when it plays host to Mater Dei in the second round of the CIF-SS Division I playoffs today.
Solve Cory Hahn.
The Monarchs are 16-10 this season, but 11-1 in games the senior pitcher has recorded a decision. In last Thursday's 5-1 victory over Newbury Park, Hahn allowed just one unearned run, five hits and struck out eight.
Mater Dei has apparently decided to ride the right-hander as far as he can take them.
No. 2-seeded Royal High, meanwhile, had the option to bring back ace Cody Buckel with four days rest in between starts, but coach Dan Maye decided against it.
Royal will start No. 2 pitcher Tyler Abbott against host Esperanza.
Maye said recently that he's not about to risk overusing Buckel in postseason, particularly since the Royal senior figures to be an early-round draft choice in the Major League draft in June.
"He's got a long career in front of him," said Maye. "I don't want to have him risk that to win one baseball game."

The Marmonte League's baseball teams are close to giving up metal bats for the 2011 league season.
All eight league coaches voted to ban metal-composition bats for next season during their meeting this week at the end of the regular season. The also voted to use wooden bats during the offseason.
A final vote to eliminate any metal bats will be held before the start of the 2011 campaign.
