North Korea & Gay Marriage

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

Let us start off with international affairs. Over the weekend North Korea detonated a nuclear weapon. The test took place underground and was just that, a test. A test to see if their bomb would work and a test to see the world's reaction. This device was reported to be better than the 2006 detonation. The world response was not so good. Usually Russia and China side with North Korea, but not this time. All members of the United Nations Security Council said the test was a violation of a 2006 treaty and the UN would be looking into sanctions against North Korea.

On top of the nuclear test, North Korea has been shooting off missiles. The exact number is unconfirmed but FOX News reports that North Korea launched three short range missles since Monday, also as a test.

North Korea is flexing its muscles. To me, North Korea resembles a child shouting and waving his hand for attention. This is a shame because only a few months ago they were so close to giving up their nuclear program. Now there are some states that should be allowed to have nuclear weapons and some that should not be allowed too. North Korea is defintely on the list of those that should not have them. If they gain enough technology, then the North Koreans could attack a whole host of countries including Japan, China, and South Korea with the missiles they are testing. The United Nations needs to step up and prevent any further action by North Korea. In the end though, North Korea has the technology and there is no stopping them without military intervention and very similar to the situation in Iran.

More close to home, today the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, the ban on gay marriage. The court ruled that the process used to pass the ban, was legal and therefor Prop 8 was legal. The main issue in the case was whether the people of the state could change the constitution through an initiative and the court found yes the people can. The court did allow marriages that occured before Prop 8 to stay valid.  Many rallies are sure to pop up throughout the state in the coming days and weeks.

Camarillo Airport a Parking Lot For Surplus Vehicles

cars at camarillo airports.jpg

What are we really going to do with all the cars that have being piled up? I say sell them at wholesale price. And make as much money back that you can. This message goes out to all the dealers in Ventura County.

If you read the story on Tuesdays paper about the storing of new cars in Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura then you know what I am talking about. Cars are piling up at Camarillo Airport, Cars 101 in Oxnard, and the Ventura RV Center. Brands in the pile up include Kia, Hyundais, and BMWs. The cars are stacking up because consumers spending is down. Well the best way to spark spending is by chopping prices.

My solution to reducing the size of stored cars is reduce the prices. It is better than having them sit around with no where to go. And who wouldn't like to go to a big lot and pick out their own car. Look at the pictures, you even get to unwrap the car.

Over the weekend, American astronauts performed a space walk to perform some maintanence on the Hubble Space telescope. NASA's Space Shuttle Blog reports that they successfully installed new battery packs, guidance sensors, and thermal blankets. The pictures below are pretty amazing. I bet its nice to be out in space.

Juan Pierre, Lakers, and Torture

Looks like Juan Pierre is going to get that playing time he was looking for. With the recent suspension of Manny Ramirez, Pierre has already seen more action and is currently batting .400.

The roller coaster doesn't seem to want to end for Lakers. On Sunday they got beat by 12 in Houston. Then Tuesday they win by 40. Game 6 is going to be in Houston. Will the Lakers show up?

President Barack Obama has backed out of releasing photos of detainees being tortured. Sky News reports that the Pentagon was going to release 43 pictures. President Obama said the photos would cause anti-American sentiment which would not be good for troops abroad. Looks like President Obama isn't too different after old Bushy after all. He even has his own war to fight.

What Happened to Jane Harman's Corruption Charges?

A few weeks ago, the story broke that Congresswoman Jane Harman, (D-Los Angeles) wasjaneharman-guilty.jpg caught on wiretaps discussing a possible pay for play scheme (details of the scam can be read here). The wiretaps were fromseveral years back. It involved Israeli lobbyists who were seeking sway in Congress. The lobbyist were being prosecuted by the federal government, but the case was later dropped when the court deemed the case would reveal too many state secrets.

The important part being thats soon as the story broke, it was hushed up by the same media that produced it. Now that is real control of the media.

Whats Wrong With LA?

The Lakers and Dodgers have each made this week one big roller coaster ride. On Monday the Lakers get beat at Staples Center by 8 points. The loss put a lot of fans on the edge of their seat. Wednesday they redeemed themselves winning by 11. We will see how they play in Houston on Friday in game 3.

And then we have the Dodgers. Off to the hottest start since who knows when. Wednesday they won their 13 straight home game setting the record. By the time you read this, it might be 14. If it is though, it will be without superstar Manny Ramirez who on Thursday monring gots slapped with a 50 game suspension. He won't be back until July. The LA Times is reporting that Ramirez tested positive for a fertility drug for woman. Either way it was on the MLB's banned substance listLooks like Juan Pierre might be getting some more playing time.

Pacquiao Hammers the Hit Man

The boxing world got rocked Saturday night. At a packed MGM Grand Manny Pacquiao annihilated Ricky "The Hit Man" Hatton in two rounds of one sided boxing. Pacquiao knocked Hatton down twice in the first down and out in the second round. Pacquiao moved through the ring with such strength and quickness that Hatton really had no chance.

The fight was more than about just a fight. It showed the world that Pacquiao is the best pound for pound fighter meaning he must fight the best. The only competition I can think of is Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now this will be an awesome fight if it happens. Mayweather will set the stage for the ultimate showdown if he can defeat Juan Manuel Marquez when they battle July 18.

Pacquiao fought Marquez twice. The first was a draw and the second a win for Pacquiao. Mayweather also knocked Hatton out but it took him ten rounds.

Lets see if Mayweather can put a beating to Marquez like Pacquiao did to Hatton.
