Camarillo Airport a Parking Lot For Surplus Vehicles
![]()
What are we really going to do with all the cars that have being piled up? I say sell them at wholesale price. And make as much money back that you can. This message goes out to all the dealers in Ventura County.
If you read the story on Tuesdays paper about the storing of new cars in Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura then you know what I am talking about. Cars are piling up at Camarillo Airport, Cars 101 in Oxnard, and the Ventura RV Center. Brands in the pile up include Kia, Hyundais, and BMWs. The cars are stacking up because consumers spending is down. Well the best way to spark spending is by chopping prices.
My solution to reducing the size of stored cars is reduce the prices. It is better than having them sit around with no where to go. And who wouldn't like to go to a big lot and pick out their own car. Look at the pictures, you even get to unwrap the car.

Why not just give them to the poor and homeless and take the write off for charitable donation. Or perhaps the state can confiscate them and distribute as they see fit...oops communism...forgot we are a democrachy A capitalist based democracy.
Notice the trucks in Daniels photos are gas guzzling SUVS.Stop building these things and make some cars people can afford to drive.
What you see is the manifestation of corporations desiring to sell more and increase profits. The recent housing price explosion and implosion gave credence to the thought that real estate can climb all it wants to, but there must always be a qualified and interested buyer for your home or you have a problem. Cars have a similarity. I buy a car and at some point in the future, I evaluate the purchase of a replacement. Can I afford a new car, is my job secure, what happens if I loose my job, what will be the monthly cost including insurance and licensing? At the same time the auto manufactures are locked to production schedules and are challenged with deciding how serious the economic setback is. Imagine the lead time for the production of a BMW and then getting it into position in California. Not an easy job. An easy solution would have precluded the new car parking lot at the airport. At this point there aren't many "winners". But if we all work together with our minds focused on finding solutions and helping others; we will come out of this together, with many stories for our grandchildren and fodder for conversations with the people in our lives.
Brian Leshon,
If you look at the first photo, you can see sedan 4 doors in the background. All the cars are piling up, not just the gas guzzlers.
