Did Washington Mutual cross the line?
Today’s column in the Ventura County Star takes a look at the current Washington Mutual ad campaign. WaMu humorously stereotypes and effectively lampoons a group of bankers. If the group was anything other than white males, there would be outrage, so why is this OK?

Thanks for your column regarding the Washington Mutual ad. Not only does WA Mu
practice white Male Bashing but also you've probably noticed some other TV ads by
very large companies that essentially do the same thing.
Since most of these ads are probably, in large part, produced by white males, it
makes them self denegrating.. and they are damaging to our young people who watch
them. (I guess white male bashing is the politically correct thing to do these
days since hardly anyone seems to object- except someone like yourself who speaks
up.)
For my part, I'm going to switch my account at Wa Mu to another bank. Probably
write the CEO a letter. I guess a letter to all the CEO's of other companies that
do this would also help get the message out.
Thanks for your article. It lifted my spirits that some one else notices these
things and speaks out.
Thank you for writing this article. I will be closing my WAMU account.
