Quiet candidate
North Carolina has given us another example of why I believe our goal should be more informed voters, not simply more voters. Quality over quantity.
Sam Duncan was elected to the county board this month. It is anticipated that he will be a quiet member of the board – since he died a month before the election. Since North Carolina voters do not care enough to elect a live county board member, one has to wonder how long before they would have noticed he hadn’t attended any meetings?

I do not know the details, but if it what you say, I think it's a terrific sentiment, but bad law. While it is overused, this would seem to be protected by the 1st Amendment.
Posted by: Scott Harris at November 20, 2006 01:49 PMThey obviously do not have St. Patrick's Day Parades, or Columbus Day Parades or Cinco de Mayo Parades in Parumph. On the other hand, having been to the place, I would say they are lucky to even have people there!
Regarding the original topic of this blog item, Republican Senator John Ashcroft was also defeated in his last re-election run for Missouri Senator by a dead man. I do not know about North Carolina, but in Missouri the voters were aware of the status of the other candidate and actually preferred the dead man.
(Note: That being done, Bush made Ashcroft U.S. Attorney General.)
Posted by: Garibaldi at November 20, 2006 02:43 PMIn that case, it may have said more about the remaining candidates than it did about the voters. Still sad, but at least not systemic:-)
Posted by: scott Harris at November 20, 2006 02:50 PMAs another example as to why I love getting my news electronically I saw the banter on these comment section and was able to go check in a matter of seconds wheather or not this was true.
