Of blogging and John Daly

I haven't blogged since last year when I was at the Masters, but with the Star about to unveil a new golf web site early next month, I am going to be blogging on a much more regular basis, probably several times a week, maybe more when there is a lot happening in golf. I'm hoping golfers around the county will get involved and give me some feedback, which in turn will promote some fun conversation about the sport we all love.
One such topic is the sad state of John Daly, who seems to be spiraling out of control. I've always been a Daly supporter, believing he was a good person who happened to have a lot of bad stuff happen to him, some of it out of his control. But in the last few months, Daly's life has been even more of a train wreck than normal. Much of the problem seems to be caused by excessive drinking and his inability to take responsibility for his own life. I think it's time for PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem to step in and make Daly get help and keep him from playing until he does. If someone doesn't do something, the problem figures only to get worse, perhaps ending in tragedy.
I'll be covering this week's Champions Tour event from Valencia CC so I plan to blog from there and in the coming weeks and months from Augusta National and the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
In the meantime, I'm hoping all of you will check out the new web site when it goes live and come back often. It's going to be pretty cool.
