Whitman camp: It's not that bad

Share: Share on Facebook submit to reddit StumbleUpon Toolbar

In an unusual move, the campaign of Reublican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman dispatched to reporters today a summary of its nightly tracking polls from Sunday and Monday, purporting to show Whitman trailing Democrat Jerry Brown, but only by 2 points.

The action was a clear response to two blogs, at Huffington Post and Calbuzz out today that cited private polls showing that Brown had opened up a lead in the high single digits in the wake of last week's revelation of the undocumented housekeeper Whitman employed, then fired after learning of her immigration status.

The poll also apparently asked respondents' opinions of celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing Whitman's former housekeeper. The Whitman campaign memo says Allred's unfavorable rating was 68 percent, but did not mention how Allred was described by the pollsters. One suspects that merely the use of the word "attorney" would produce an unfavorable rating of at least 50 percent.

She could have easily looked into sponsoring Nicky - I did it for a guy who worked for me. I've known him for over 14 years and he owns his own business now. He's making more than us. He is a hard working guy and always has been.

Tomas came over by himself when he was 14 from the middle of Mex. He was the youngest of 8, had to support his family because his dad was dead. He didn't know anyone up here. One of his jobs when I knew him as an illegal was in earthquake retrofit - he got $15.00 an hour and his employeer billed the government $35.00 an hour for labor.

I sponsored him when he was 23 or so. He's 32 now.

He and I talked about the Meg/Nicky situation. Her reaction is the norm - treat illegals as disposable commodities. He doesn't know anyone who was sponsored and I don't have any friends who sponsored someone. That has to change - beating on the chest doesn't work - education does.

I am not sure if its just my missing skills or if internet marketing in general suffered from too much competition. What is the new trend or where is it heading? Is it the mobile world?

Katie - Are you sure that you are a Republican?

You have a heart and really care about people and our Democracy.

She's about as much of a Republican as Linda Parks (her hero). She also distorts the truth a lot, like the reason she and Leslie Cornejo left the County Republican Party Central Committee.

I was on the Committee when they both left and it was because of disruptive behavior on both of their parts. They were asked to leave and they eventually complied. Trust me, it wasn't a noble act by either of them like they continue to claim.

No Nelson Mandela this one.

I absolutely go along with the previously mentioned remark, the web is certainly expanding into the most powerful medium of conversation worldwide and it's as a result of websites such as this that thoughts are distributing so quickly.

Thanks Katie Mae - been a lifelong conservative Republican - but never a right winger or a Stricklandnite.

The post after yours made me laugh. Obviously that person wasn't on the CC or is lying about it. About a dozen people left at the same time. Sad times for the County Republicans.

Nelson Mandela is in a world of his own. If you know how difficult African Leaders find it near impossible to relinquish power after serving their full terms, so many of you will understand why Dr Mandela will always receive commendations from all and sundry for serving just a term and relinquishing power willingly. Col. Ghadaffi has been in power since 1968; Robert Mugabe has been in power since 1980; Eyadema of Togo was in power for over three decades until he died in power. His son, in continuation of the dynasty, is currently the President of Togo. Stories such has these abound in Africa. So leave Africans to appreciate their hero - Nelson Mandela.
For those that are being sarcastic in their posts, people like Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma are alive and well to corroborate what Dr Mandela claimed in the biography that he didn't want to be President.

There goes Katie, lying through her teeth again. Don't flatter yourself, Miss Teague. Nobody followed you two losers out the door and you know it. Quite the opposite, in fact.

It was more like, "Don't let the door hit you in the behind on your way out." Try telling the truth for a change. It will set you free.

had a bit of a laugh when reading the last paragraph about grammatical errors.

minimum range were some of the highlights of our eighth tour to these Caribbean islands. We observed most of the Jamaican, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rican single island endemics and saw the majority of the possible multi-island endemics.

Aw gee - someone invoked my name and I have to correct the reinvented history again.

For starters, if someone is going to say they served with me on the Central Committee and then call me names, they would have a little more credibility if they used their own name.

If you would like to look over the notes and minutes of the 2006 actions of the Central Committee members, just let me know. Those would include all those phone calls I received on the day that the Stricklands were running to the County Clerk's office to try and pull papers for the Congressional seat that Elton had just announced his secret grave issues keeping him out of the race, and after he had spent 2 solid days trying to convince someone, ANYONE to run so that he could control who would get the seat.

Yes, it was quite a year that resulted in the takeover of the leadership of the Republican Central Committee over a dispute in which I believed that monies donated to a Central Committee should not be controlled by the top electeds in the county, but rather by the people.

I finally resigned from the committee because I saw a large group of committee members turn over control of all the funds and major decisions to a few, single agenda (single candidate focused) members. This was unhealthy and irresponsible and in the end did not help grow the party in this county. When I was ousted, the county was solidly red, and now we are drowning in blue. Thank you Peggy Sadler, Virginia Gonzalez, Mike Osborn and Cristina Carreno Martin.

Leslie, don't forget the secret meetings held by Natalie Panossian or the late night calls and illegal meetings held by Mike Osborn. Yep, I've got the minutes and emails too.

Oh yeah - the list goes on. My guess is that Natalie now realizes she guessed wrong that year. There are a lot of Central Committee members and associates that wasted a lot of energy on secret meetings rather than registering voters, and the county Republican party is weaker for it. Osborn will probably say that it's more powerful because they funnel more money throught their accounts. I say if you rule from top to botton, you kill the grass roots. What you get is a couple favorite candidates (usually incumbents in safe districts) re-elected and little effort for the rest of the candidates down ticket.

And then there are some candidates that have a lot of money spent on them/by them that lose spectacularily. And I suspect it is going to happen on the state level this November.

I and my friend went on a travel to South and Northindia last christmas, everything most likely was very good here. I and my friend move a lot all around and so had been to a fabulous very few Nationalparks. A lot of people watched a number of Indian tigers, small elephants and as well numerous other beautiful animals and insects at that point. All of the flora and fauna from Northindia is in fact incredible as well as especially very different. In a handful of areas it truly is fully green having a large amount of fruits, located in various other locations at this time there are really dessert places. In the foothills you will view a few extremely not often and pretty flowers and also trees. All of us as well previously had a few nice days in Goa at a beach, the cold water was in fact fully clean and all the persons really lovely.

Might there be someone reading here that could tell how to get my Blackberry fixed? I know of a man that can do this for others, but I can't seem to find a way to contact. I'm not sure what is broken. I dropped it on the floor and it starts up ok, but can't stay powered on. Do you think it is a problem I can fix on my own? Or where I should get it repaired? Appreciate some help. I am not sure how to get this sorted. Thanks for your help!

The other day, while I was at work, my sister stole my iphone and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

95 percent accurate
Over the last 25 presidential elections, Ventura County voters have backed the winner 24 times, or over 95 percent of the time. It is one of only a handful of counties in the nation that has been such a predictable bellwether.
