October 2005 Archives

The special election is upon us. The attack ads have been planned. The last minute mailers are coming out of the print shops right now. In the next few days we will see a mud slide of mud slinging, misinformation, lies, distortions, and a wonderful debate.

All the ads are made. And most of us have made up our minds.

But let us forget all of that. Instead, I am calling on my readers to share your predictions on the outcome of the differing ballot initiatives.

In the comments section, leave your predictions on the outcomes of the differing questions being put forth to the voters.

This election is over a year away but it is gaining traction. It would seem that this campaign is too far into the future but some evidence says the race is already underway. I have talked to people already interning on The Ferial Masry Team .
And the Strickland Dynasty is being attacked from the right!

Anyways leave your thoughts about this race here.

President Bush is scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library's Air Force One Pavilion in Simi Valley Friday.

Invited by officials at the library, President Bush and his wife plan to attend the 11 a.m. ceremony and a 1 p.m. lunch, according to the White House.

The 87,000-square-foot pavilion features the plane that President Ronald Reagan used throughout his years in office. The aircraft was also used by six other presidents, including the current president, who was the last one to fly in the Boeing 707 in 2001.

A total of 600 people are expected to attend the ceremony.

President Bush will arrive in California on Thursday to speak at a Los Angeles fund-raising event that night for the Republican National Committee.

The pavilion opens to the public on Monday.

Thoughts?

I hear that the Mayor of Santa Clarita Cameron Smyth is running for the assembly seat to represent the 38th assembly district. The primary is this June.

As he is not from Simi Valley I don't know his bio beyond what the city website lists ( amazing facts important to voters like lettering in two sports!).

I assume from his bio ( Working for Pete Knight ) that he is from the conservative wing of the Republican Party. I can assume that someone from the moderate wing will emerge and get the support of Dr. Keith Richman and others. From my intial read he makes Audra and Tony look like Bill and Hillary. But maybe the stuff on google is only the party centered red meat talk.

So, what are your initial thoughts on this candidate and this race? Are there other candidates? He used to work for Shell Oil company but in what capacity?

By the way, Santa Clarita selects their mayor from the council and rotates the position.

Brian Dennert back with more democracy inaction ( I love Jon Stewart )The Simi Valley Democrats will once again be hosting a debate. This one will most likely be after the first of the year. What subject matter would you like to see debated? The Simi Valley Democrats are open to ideas, but so far debating gas prices is pretty popular.

Any other topics you would like to see tossed around by Greens ( if they show up), Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and others?

Leave suggestions in the comments section. You do not have to register for this website to leave comments.

I am close to my goal of 1,000 comments. If you are lucky poster number 1,000 you may recieve one of the following:

1. I will reveal a candidate about to announce their run. ( Hint: Don't form a committee to keep a secret)
2. You may be a guest blogger on this site on an issue you really care about.
3. Lunch at Subcontractor's

Personally, I would like the lunch.

Yet another entry in the subject of elections educate the public about the big issues of the day... ( I received this from Rob Collins)

Tomorrow-Tues. Oct 11 The school board will be having a discussion about Prop. 74 at the School Board Meeting. Greg Stratton will be taking the Yes and Rob Collins will be taking the No side. Should be interesting but unfortunately it is being held in the Binns Room and will not be televised.
You may want to attend and even use your first amendment right to speak on this issue.
Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

I assume Arleigh will be there. What about Scott, Tim?

When Democrats attack

| | Comments (106)

I bring sad news to those that wish to unite the local democratic party under a common banner to do battle against for the 24th US House District. As my blog readers know at least three candidates will be fighting it out to take on Elton Gallegly or fight for the seat( he must be retiring, why else would they fight for the honor to take on an incumbent, when incumbents win 95 percent of the time plus?).

Party primaries are frequently bloody because the policy differences are more subdued then in general elections.

Any candidate running is welcome to be a guest blogger. I am not endorsing anyone in the primary or trying to help anyone out by publishing this e-mail. Instead, I hope to start a conversation to understand what is happening. If you know more details and would like to post your opinion, please do so. But, do not take cheap shots without backing them up.
