April 2006 Archives

peterfoyReagan.jpg

Over the last few days Peter Foy sure has been busy. I have seen several large signs of his on the west end of Simi Valley. Jim Dantona ( Who just recieved the endorsement of COPS) and Judy Mikels ( Who has recently updated her website) have many more signs, but it is a start.

Peter Foy has also launched a website. Click here to check it out.

So, how does his campaign change the dynamics of the race? Can he run an upbeat campaign and stay out of the mud? Does he diminish or raise either of the other two candidates more than the other?

If you see a mailer from him, please post the contents here.

This is week two of Operation: Eagle Defense.
If you'd like to donate to a wildlife shelter to protect bald eagles, click here.

First Dick Cheney confuses his friend for a bird and shoots him in the face with a shotgun. Now, local Republican blogs are attacking our nation's symbol, the bald eagle. Of course, our side has tried to defend the eagles, but I don't see an answer or a retraction yet, so we will keep defending the most patriotic bird besides Canada's Penguins.

I saw my first Elton Gallegly sign today on LA Ave. by Del Taco. His website has also recently been updated. Later in the campaign season I will be giving out awards for best local political campaign websites. The results will be biased towards campaigns that link to this blog.

I also saw Bob Larkin signs over the weekend. I don't have anything to post about the Larkin campaign, because as far as I know, he doesn't have a website. I really don't know where he stands on the most critical issues facing our state and nation.

If you see any other signs that I have missed please post them here.

And if you see any signs in funny locations, e-mail me a picture and I will post them.

A SoCal congressman is going to avoid attending George W. Bush's speech this week in Orange County on immigration. The congressman has a long history of oppossing illegal immigration and doesn't want to attend an event that he so strongly disagress with.

Any guesses who? Click here to find out.

eltonmustache.gif

Elton is on spring break from congress ( Good thing they don't all head for beach) and all around town all people want to talk about is immigration. Is he hosting any no cost events to discuss the issues? If you know of one please post it.

This quote stands out in my mind:

For Gallegly, the subject is simpler. He says because of his firm stance against illegal immigration for the past 20 years, people often come to him to tell him they support the position with which he's won many votes.

I know he supported propostion 187 and I know that he has been against illegal immigration for years, but does anyone know about the legislative victories on this issue he has achieved?

Jim Dantona has been attacking Judy Mikels for being a part-time supervisor with full-time pay. He has been attacking her record of attendance at transportation meetings which has been as low as 30 percent ( That is even lower than Bush's approval ratings!).

Judy Mikels has fired back by inviting reporters to her Simi Valley home. To read her full response read this article.

Jim Dantona has issued a response to the article and his full response is posted in the extended comments.

Now, before you post any comments.

1. I want a clean fight.
2. Keep all punches above the belt.
3. Fighters to your corners...

If you feel like you have been unfairly attacked, see highly offensive language, or other disturbing posts, please e-mail me so I can remove it.

MichaelTenenbaum.jpg

Michael Tenenbaum has a campaign website. It isn't officially released yet , so complaints about it not being done will ring hollow here. Although, I would think he would run an aggressive netroots campaign and take credit card donations over the web.

Looks like he is serious about bringing the fight to Elton Gallegly.

I spoke with him the other night ( but not about his website) and I will share my thoughts in a few days.

UPDATE: Michael Tenenbaum attacks Elton Gallegly's fundraising. Click on continue reading.

Nice photo of Ferial Masry with Howard Dean ( Head of The DNC).

repubican.jpg

Now, I know it was an obvious mistake and might of been anything from the printer or someone's messy handwriting on an order form. But that doesn't make it unfunny.

Anyone have a backstory on this sign?

eltonmustache.gif

I just figured out how to put photos into my entries. If you are a local pol and I write about you, send me a photo to use in future entries.

Should Elton Gallegly debate Michael Tenenbaum? Elton Gallegly has been in congress for tha last twenty years, if we wanted to we could just call his office or look up his record to see where he stands. But, maybe there are new issues that warrant a debate. If you think that they should debate sign this petition. If I get a lot of interest I will bring the petition to The Star and/or other groups and try to get a moderator.

So, leave your name and a good reason why they should debate.

A reader tipped us off to this story that was mentioned on KROQ ( 106.7) this morning.

Tony and Audra Strickland have been paying each other out of their campaign accounts for campaign work. The article does imply that they are cleared of any legal wrong doing. It says the DA's office sent them a letter to that effect. Tony, can you e-mail me the text to that letter? If so, I will post it for you. If it is ethical is the real debate point. Some say yes, because this work needs to get done anyways, and who better to trust than a family member? Others think it looks bad because in effect a campaign contribution could end up in their joint checking account paying their familiy expenses. If the Stricklands can show that needed work was performed at market rate prices that clears them in my mind of any legal wrong doing.

Do other local politicians pay their families to work for them? If so, next time they ask you to walk a precinct, ask for a check.

smyth.jpg

Quote of the week: ( From LA City Beat) ( I was interviewed about the race).

Technically, Smyth still has to defeat Mary Barrientos in the June primary to claim his title.. But with the Republican Party formally lined up behind Smyth, "he would have to kill someone on camera to lose this race", says Dennert.

It is a development that actually gives hope to Democrats.

Hey, here is your chance for self-promotion. What other blogs about local or national politics do you either read or write for? Leave a link.

mikels.jpg

Judy Mikel's website is now under construction and has taken down the pages from her last run. When you see the new website launched, please leave a comment.

I also see Peter Foy has launched a website.

And just to be fair, a random link to Jim Dantona.

alger.jpg
Jim Alger today issued another press release about abortion rights. Although abortion is an important issue, I am still not sold on the idea that this will change the dynamics of the campaign in Simi Valley.

The best line...

"Jim has shown himself time and time again as the only candidate who has the will, strength, or resolve to fight the Republicans on their own turf."

Is choice a Republican issue? If not, what issues is he fighting on Republican turf on?

I was looking over capoliticalnews.com blog and I found this article.

I will sum it up for you. ( Their arguements, not mine!)

1. DDT is actually good.
2. The 99 percent of scientists that believe otherwise are a part of the liberal media.
3. And they are racist Klan supporters.

In the 1960's Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring, which was a trigger for the modern environmental movement. It led to banning DDT in the US and it helped put pressure on Nixon to create the EPA ( Is he suddenly a liberal?).

Her book showed how pesticides and herbicides used in massive quantities are killing off our wildlife, including Bald Eagles. She warned if we continued in our ways we would end up having a Silent Spring. DDT and other problems were hurting the chances of the bald eagle, symbol of our nation from surviving.

I just can't believe he is attacking bald eagles. I have seen Bald Eagles, I have a pet Bald Eagle, and you Steve, are no Bald Eagle.

The Mikels Campaign Team has started putting their signs up around town also.

Does this mean she realizes she must campaign against Jim Dantona? Or does she always put signs up regardless if she has a close race coming up?

Has anyone seen campaign signs outside of Simi Valley? Moorpark? The Knolls?

Any word on signs by Peter Foy? Or proof that he exists?

There is a story about Judy Mikels on Steve Frank's blog. Make sure you read it and comment on it if you know anything about it. Does Judy and Steve go way back together?

With less than 60 days until the election Tenenbaum has answered some questions for a fellow blogger. Too bad The Star doesn't have the sway or the interest to get this work done.

What is wrong with the traditional media in this area? Why can't the research and print political stories everyday leading up to an election.

Anyways, thanks Steve Frank for getting these answers.

But before you attack Tenenbaum, remember Gallegly has not answered all of these either.

Steve Frank's blog.

Steve Frank is a very conservative and partisan Republican activists. His blog usually covers Republican party insider fights. But today I was alerted to a story he has written attacking Judy Mikels about the possilble expansion fo the local dump.

If you know more about the story, fill in the details. If you want to just attack people, there are many other sites for that.

If you see attacks of a personal nature, please e-mail me and I can remove them.

Arnold has recently been hiring Bush employees for his upcomign campaign. He has been looking for people that are good at attacking other candidates.

Sounds like fun. I can't wait to see that the Democrats supported Arizona over California. Or that they are communists or something.

Too bad Arnold won't be talking about his record or plans for the future.

Inside Joke

Any thoughts on the energy issues facing our country?

Months ago, George W. Bush said he was looking forward to and wanted to getting to the bottom of who the leaker of Valerie Plame's identity. ( Quick guide to the scandal here.). Luckily, he has been true to his word and today we found out who the identity of the true leaker.

Hopefully the investigators will be dispatched soon to the location of the incident.

Peter Foy says he is running. There are even articles written about him. But does he have a single sign, brochure, or website? These are marks of a real candidate. Am I being too impatient? The election is less than 60 days away. I want action.

I don't think the guy is real. I think it is just some clever photoshopping.

I have seen plenty of Dantona signs. I even say a Judy Mikels sign. Peter Foy says he is going to spend more than $195,000, but when does it start? For the record, I am not attacking his issues or him, just the start of the campaign.

Jim Alger has a new press release. He needs $20,000 grand pronto. Click on " Continue reading" for more details.

Also, a reader informed me Smyth, is not pronounced Smith, but rather Smy-th.

Thanks for the tip.

jimandcrowd.jpg

I just recieved an e-mail from Jim Dantona about his campaign signs. Click on continue reading for details.

In non-news, has anyone seen ANYTHING from Peter Foy? Is he real? Has anyone seen him before?

If you see any events from him or Judy Mikels, please let me know.

But will he be able to get his name off the ballot?

Tom Delay has found another loophole that Republicans like Elton Gallegly can use and you heard it here first...

Move. Run away. If Elton Gallegly moves out of the state, he will no longer be a qualified candidate. So Elton, change your legal address to DC. Then you can get your name off of the ballot. I have to admit Tom Delay has a way of bending the laws to fit his needs. Pretty creative guy.

Of course Tom Delay is not being forced out not because two of his staff members have pled guilty to felonies, but because of mean liberals. He is going to continue to fight against what he calls " The War on Christianity" or what the rest of us call " An Issue to distract people from the fact Tom Delay is corrupt as they come".

If Tom Delay is found guilty of all the crimes he has been indicted and accussed of, do you think Elton will ever admit he was wrong for keeping him in power with all those votes all these years?

Three words...

Culture of corruption.

Delay
Cunningham
Noe
Harris
Frist

Who is next?

The most interesting school board in East Ventura County has to be Conejo. I can't keep track of all the fun stuff Cathy Carlson and Mike Dunn brought up.

But does anyone know of any of the candidates in the upcoming election? Cathy has stated her intention of electing more people that see her things her way, but are here any names being tossed around? What about the faction oppossed to Mike Dunn? Are they running again, or is there somebody else?

I was googling my own name to see what pops up when I found this link.

Thank you Mary. I hadn't seen it before.

Want to get on my good side? Link to me. What to get on my bad side? Try to argue I never cover your candidate, when in fact it is because your canidate and you never send anything in to me.

I haven't seen much about Peter Foy and his campaign for supervisor. When I try to google it, all I get is my own blog!

If you see anything ( like a website or a mailing) please e-mail it to me so I can post it.

I am open to many different candidates getting their information out here, so send it in.

I recieved a mailing from Jim Dantona last week, but I have been too busy to write about it.

In the mailing Jim Dantona lays it all out. He is divorced. He has gone bankrupt. He has suffered setbacks, but the theme of the mailing is this:

Jim Dantona Gets knocked down, but he gets up again, never gonna keep him down. ( Anyone know the song with clicking on the link?)

I don't know what to tell you. I have never seen a candidate go on the early offensive against themselves like this before. But, I guess this puts the issues behind him. Anyone that brings up stuff he has already brought up himself just looks mean-spirited.

For that, Jim, you win play of the week. I'd give you a prize and publish your photo here, but I'm cheap.

In other news, I have seen a few Dantona signs start going up by the new mall. Anyone seen any signs yet this season?

Ferial Masry announced the endorsement of The California Teachers Association. Hopefully for her, the endorsement will come with a large check.
