Democratic Women @ The Fair

| | Comments (2)

The Democratic Party and local Democratic Clubs are looking for more volunteers to work the booth at The Ventura County Fair. The fair has a decent amount of politics going on. Elton Gallegly is frequently there if anyone was planning on challenging him to a debate and sending me a video clip.

The Simi Valley Street Fair had the most politicians of any event that I know of in Ventura County. I want to thank all the politicians that even when they are not in a tight race come out to street fairs and county fairs. Elton Gallegly shows respect for his voters by meeting them in events like these. Thanks Elton.

Funny Joe Lieberman Video

| | Comments (24)

Click on the picture to play video.

Joe Lieberman is facing a tough primary because he has become "George W. Bush's favorite Democrat". The campaign gives him a chance to show why he is a Democrat. What core values that make him different from a Republican will he bring up?

The video is funny. Have a watch to see why some Democrats are upset with him.

A message from Jim Dantona

| | Comments (44)

A campaign is more than a candidate and some issues. It is a team effort. With that in mind here is a clip of Jim Dantona thanking his supporters.

In the coming months I will have many more clips about local politics. If you have a message you want out contact me. I will post clips from all sorts of campaigns and events. I have a pretty banged up camera ( my dog chewed on it and left it on the yard. Twice.) by I will do my best. If you want to buy me a new camera let me know. I will run an ad or something for you.

If you'd like me to attend an event and take clips for the web send me an e-mail.

New Peter Foy endorsements...

| | Comments (23)

FoythrowingHay.jpg

Peter Foy has a press release with his latest endorsements ( Click on continue reading to read it) which raises some real interesting questions.

1. Will Judy Mikels endorse Foy? He practically called her a RINO ( Republican in name only) and knocked her out early. He is also clearly aligned with the Strickland faction of Republican politics. The Stricklands and Judy Mikels have battled over a few issues including Judy's support of Audra's primary opponent in her first run. But I don't think Jim Dantona has much of a shot at her endorsement either.

2. What was Glen Becerra thinking endorsing Peter Foy? If he supported Jim Dantona he would of been supporting a Democrat. And we know partisan party activists won't be having any of that.

But...now that he supports Peter Foy he will be helping the more conservative activist wing of the party. By doing so he empowers The Stricklands and Peter Foy for running for higher office.

Imagine Peter Foy Vs Glen Becerra in the Republican Primary less than two years from now. Or Tony Strickland endorsed by Peter Foy, County Supervisor and Tom McClintock, former State Senator. Will Glen Becerra really help someone that will turn around and support his eventual opponent? Becerra needs all the allies he can get if he plans on beating back a activist challenge. Maybe Glen Becerra isn't planning on running after all.

The safest bet was to stay neutral. But safe betting never made anyone a leader.

Rev. Jill Martinez ( CA-24) update

JIll.jpg

The Rev. Jill Martinez will be holding an East County Strategy meeting on July 29th. Click on continue reading for more details.

What tactics or strategy could Democrats use to change the dynamics of this race? Is it too late? Could this be a tidal wave year for Democrats? Are the districts too partisan to matter?

I will also post events for Elton Gallegly. If you see any around please e-mail them to me.

Donna Prenta up and running

| | Comments (20)

prentaRunning.jpg

Donna Prenta is up and running in her campaign to oust Dean Kunicki from the county board of education.

She doesn't yet have a website so if anyone wants to support her and create one leave a comment here so she can contact you. I wonder if websites are needed or how they can best be used in a local race like this one.

I will post more pictures from the event in the near future.

Click on continue reading for her latest press release.

Dantona back on the trail

Jim Dantona ( Supervisor: Dantona VS Foy) is back on the campaign trail this week raising funds for his November contest. If you want details click on continue reading.

Any word on what Peter Foy has been up to? Is he campaigning over the summer? If not, does he run the risk of voters forgetting who he is? I think they'd remember his name and if they voted for him, but the longer that goes by without him engaging the voters, his issues fade. Thoughts on my analysis are welcome.

Brett Wagner Strikes Again

Brett Wagner is concerned about a new weapon which he describes as a Death Ray or Pain Ray.

I don't know anything more about The Death Ray except what Brett Wagner describes. Anyone ever hear of the thing?

Brett Wagner wants people to sign a petition. Before you sign a petition to ban a weapon take the time to become educated on it. If anyone has details to add please do so.

W. on global warming

| | Comments (12)

Wwarming.jpg

From People Magzine...

(People Magazine): Do you think Gore is right on global warming?

( George W. Bush) I think we have a problem on global warming. I think there is a debate about whether it's caused by mankind or whether it's caused naturally, but it's a worthy debate. It's a debate, actually, that I'm in the process of solving by advancing new technologies, burning coal cleanly in electric plants, or promoting hydrogen-powered automobiles, or advancing ethanol as an alternative to gasoline.

Now that the President is on board that something needs to be done, will more people support making changes now? The side effects could be economic stimulus, cars that we can sell around the world ( American cars don't meet emission standards in China), increased cooperation with our allies, and maintaining our position as a leader in global technology.

The alternative could be so much worse.

Take down those old signs Part three

| | Comments (1)

FoyTree.jpg

This picture is a few weeks old, so most likely the sign is no longer there. I am posting this because a reader sent it in from the cell phone camera ( that explains the pixels) and it is in a funny location.

The sign was last seen at the corner of Tapo and Township. Can anyone do a field report and tell me if the sign is still there?

If you see any signs left over froma previous election, e-mail me a picture with the location and the date and I will post it. I post them as a public service so that candidates will remove their signs. Sometimes a zealous supporter puts them out and the campaign doesn't even know where they all went. I wonder which candidate will be the last one standing this season? ( Their signs that is!)

Elephants jumping ship...

Bob Ney of Ohio is a walking gift to the Democrats. He is going to be the next poster boy for corruption ( now that Congressman Cunningham is in jail and Tom Delay has resigned). Of course there are corrupt Democrats too. The difference is that this rot is infesting the Republican party leadership. It is getting pretty bad when your own district has to hire a lobbyist to talk to you.

I admire the staff members who have had enough of the allegations against Congressman Bob Ney ( R-Toast). The three most important staff members of his have just bailed. And the fourth was hit with a supeona. Hopefully the voters will do their job and make another vacancy.

When the history of the 2006 elections will be written will it say that Republicans faced down the corruption in their own party which diverted funds away from the troops, or will it say they looked the other way? Congress needs to be fumigated. The House of Representatives looks like a criminal enterprise. I wouldn't be surprised if the RICO Act .

Elton Gallegly MIA?

| | Comments (3)

Where is Elton Gallegly? On so many issues it seems his party just shoves him aside.

For example, a Republican Duncan Hunter wants to change some hunting rules in this area. Does he consult with Gallegly? If so, why isn't Elton taking a stand one way or another. It seems on every big issue others do the talking for him.

Read the whole story here, but notice not once does Elton Gallegly come up. How does he avoid taking a stand?

Jill Martinez names Campaign director

| | Comments (3)

JIll.jpg

The Rev. Jill Martinez
named a long time local Democratic Party leader to lead her campaign recently. Chris Robson has also been a long time reader and contributer to this blog. Hopefully this will continue in the future.

Chris, do you have any word on debates between Jill and Elton? I'd love to see that happen. Maybe the Tenenbaum team has the ol' chicken suit around if Elton declines.

Democrats and Republicans uniting over Global Warming

| | Comments (2)

poster.jpg

GOP Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, who chairs the House Science Committee had this to say about a report about the science of Global Warming...

"There is nothing in this report that should raise any doubts about the broad scientific consensus on global climate change."

Now only a handful of extremists and lobbyists for energy companies are not on board. Actually, here is a report from ExxonMobil that shows they understand too.

Exit Plan?

| | Comments (1)

Arnold has denied Bush's request for troops to secure the border. One of Arnold's objections was that there was no clear end to the mission.

So, to get this straight...Arnold wants an exit strategy for for troops in our own country? Hmm, where else could we use an exit strategy?

Approval Ratings

Guess who's approval rating went from about 60 percent to about 24 percent in less than a year? What a loser. Too bad he isn't facing an election.

Primaries and party unity

| | Comments (19)

So, a local blogger challenged me to write about Joe Lieberman and the contested primary in Connecticut.

Here is the basic run down: Joe Lieberman has been called all sorts of names like Fox News Democrat, George W. Bush's favorite Democrat, and an enabler. If you want a quote that makes the Democratic Party look bad call Joe. He has been hanging out at parties for all the cool right wing people across Washington. And now it is primary time back home.

Joe Lieberman is running against Ned Lamont for the Democratic Nomination. Ned has promised to support and endorse Joe is he wins. But Lieberman has not returned the pledge. In fact, if Joe loses he is thinking about running as an independent creating a three way race and helping the chances of the Republicans.

Democrats are going nuts. They attack Joe for not being loyal to the party and Joe responds by threatening to leave the party. I think he is sealing his own doom. If he pledged to remain, he'd most likely win his primary. Now he calls into question his connection to the Democratic Party.

Now, this is how this issue gets local. Has Bob Larkin endorsed Audra Strickland? Has Michael Tenenbaum endorsed Elton Gallegly? Has Mary Pallant and Brett Wagner endorsed Jill Martinez? And the big question: Will Judy Mikels endorse anyone for county supervisor?

In politics loyalty matters. But does it show disloyalty not to endorse your own party members if you are bitter at a loss? Have American voters become more partisan?

Let me tell you what I think. If Joe Lieberman said he'd keep the party united I'd vote for him. If he wants to be bitter if he loses, I would not vote for him. I hate spoilers. Does Lieberman think Florida was stolen? If so, why is he so chummy with Bush? I think Lieberman should win his primary, but he might be able to snatch a loss from from the jaws of victory.
