Another day, another candidate

Jeanne Davis is running for Simi Valley School ( 10 candidates, 2 open seats). Here is a video of her at a recent event.

If you have any questions for her leave them in the comments. Also, check out her sweet ( or as Tim Camarillo would say 1337) website.

I have more videos of other candidates. If you want a video done you can e-mail them to me or you can e-mail me to set up a time to do it.

For the earlier video of Thurlow Partridge click here.

If you have questions for Tim Camarillo click here.

As of this Sunday Thurlow has about 40 views of their video and Davis has about 20.

Please leave questions, but direct them at the candidate in the video for the most part. I will do a video with every candidate that wants one so you can get a chance to ask them directly.

I have deleted questions directed at other candidates so that this candidate has a chance to respond. I will repost them when she has had a chance to respond.

Comments

Again, I will repost all the comments after this candidate has a chance to respond to questions directed at her. Some of the questions before were really good but I didn't want to sort through them. I wil repost them so that the conversations started can continue.

But for the time being what questions do you have for Jeanne Davis?

Try to keep them connected to the local school board and not about global warming, Valerie Plame, or WMD's.

Brian-- Was this directed at me? Please note I didn't talk about any of those topics on this thread.

I've visited Jeanne website a few days ago. I like the resume. She has a very long commitment to kids and that is important to this voter.

As long as she doesn't talk to me like I'm five year's old, I welcome an open dialogue. One thing I have noticed, is she is the only female in this race? I think that takes guts from the get-go.

One of the things I notice in the schools is it's usually the mom's that are stepping up to volunteer for booster clubs and PTA. Jeanne: do you think being the only female in this race gives you a unique perspective on the future of our schools? What innovative ideas do you have that we could accomplish in our schools?

What does she think of the effect NCLB has had on Simi Valley schools?

Posted by: I wash my own boat, thank you very much! at September 4, 2006 09:58 PM

Thanks for your questions. I do possess a unique perspective on Simi Valley education by virtue of my long standing experience as a teacher in the regular classroom, a teacher of handicapped childen, a teacher at a fundamental school, a vice principal in middle school principally dealing with problems of young adults and as principal of a Simi Valley elementary school. A principal additionally functions as the curriculum leader of the school and is charged with maintaining the safety and security for their site.

NCLB is a federal program. The educators in Simi are committed to reaching the goals set by the government. The District continually reviews ways to help students who are experiencing difficulty learning how to read by offering a reading intervention program at each elementary schol. In addition, children who speak English as a second language are encouraged to attend a cluster school where their individual's specific needs can be met.
More to follow......

Thank you for bringing forth ideas and not hiding from the debate over what should be done for our schools.

What do you think of the choice schools like Vista and Hollow Hills? Do they take all the best students ?

Posted by: Democracy at September 5, 2006 11:33 PM

Hello,

There are good students at every school. The two fundamental schools exist as an alternative educational opportunity offered to all students who live in Simi. Both schools maintain a rigorous curriculum, emphasizing student accountability and parent support.
Students are expected to complete all class and homework assignments and maintain appropriate behavior. Non-diligence to work or behavior can result in the student being place on probation.

Ms.Davis:

What changes do you think the district needs to make to be competitive on a national scale?

Do you think the $145 million bond is a success, or failure?

Thank you

You said:

"...Students are expected to complete all class and homework assignments and maintain appropriate behavior."

Does that mean I shouldn't send my child to another Simi Valley school because this is the expected behavior at these schools which implies it is not at the others.

In regards to the Bond, it is too early to tell if it is a success or a failure.

Posted by: jeanne davis at September 9, 2006 10:12 PM

Did you see that the city is having the same problems with rising construction costs? What background do you have to make sure construction is done quickly?

Posted by: Barry BONDS at September 10, 2006 05:24 PM

Ms Davis,

You're being a kidder about the bond right? PUHLEASE tell me this is a misprint. IF it's too soon to tell if C4 is a success or not, by what basis are you going to judge it's success or failure?

By it's own literature, which proclaimed it would add classrooms, improve technology and modernize our 1960 era schools, do you think C4 is going to succeed, and why?

And would you support higher property taxes to improve teacher working conditions?
