Is Jill Martinez preparing to run again in 2008 when it is expected Rep. Elton Gallegly ( CA-24) will be retiring?
I expect the primary on the Republican side will be Tom McClintock or Tony Strickland and Glen Becerra.

DEAR FRIENDS
As we come to the end of 2006 and begin 2007, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who worked so tirelessly on my campaign and supported me for the United States Congress. I send blessings to you all as we begin an exciting New Year filled with hope and joy. Even though we did not win my race this time, we experienced many successes across the nation in which we all share.
I am so proud of all of you who urged me on and I want to encourage those of you who helped form the message that our Country needed to hear. Together, we said that it was no longer acceptable to continue the course that we were on in Iraq and that rampant fiscal irresponsibility would no longer be tolerated. My platform priorities in providing funds for our schools and reducing costs in higher education became a major issue to address as did the need for affordable, accessible health care for everyone. Global warming finally appeared on everyone’s radar with help from Vice-President Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth.” So, as we distance ourselves from the election of 2006, let us not drop these concerns. This is the gift I share with all of you at this special time of year: that we continue to be diligent for the sake of our children, our grandchildren and our future lives together. I commit to you that I will continue to work hard to make sure that our communities thrive, our people are healthy and safe, and that we insist on good stewardship of our planet. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to renew my commitment to making our world a better place.
You are a blessing to me and I wish you many blessings this season and all year long.
Sincerely,
Jill Martinez, 2006 Candidate
United States Congress, 24th District

Does this women actually think anyone cares what she has to say? She lost by a huge margin. She lost to a guy that didn't even show up and wanted to retire.
I have this message for Jill Martinez. You ran -you lost - go away.
I have heard that Gallegly is rethinking his retirement. Has anyone else heard that? I doubt it as being in the minority isn't likely to be fun.
In a great year she could not top 40 % against a Republican that was trying to retire. Democrats know the district is tough but should demand a nominee that will bring the fight to the Republicans.
Does she have any plans to change the dynamic? Something beyond it might be an open seat?
Democrats need a well funded and media attractive candidate. I don't think either of these two will fit both reqs. Maybe Michael Case?
Any other ideas for Democrats? It might be a perfect storm year. We better get our act together and a plan ready to go in case the local Republicans implode and the national Republicans make it another great time to be a Democrat. What about Steve Bennett? Supervisor Long?
I wonder if it will be a Strickland or a McClintock from the conservative wing of the party that will run for the nomination?
I am betting McClintock. He has strong loyalty with the base in the party.
Running Wagner or Martinez again would be like putting Bustamante up again. Although, Cruz was governor for a short time. Click on the link.
Any other big Democrats out there?
The Democrats can't win the 24th District. It belongs to the Republicans. If we're going to be forced to listen to some liberal from the Democrat party, they should just run someone like Laura Winchester who has some common sense and spunk. Also a nice smile and a**.
Indeed one Dem stands out as the brightest and most respected in the County. Michael Case stands heads above and can run a formidable campaign.
Although Michael Case may be great, I do not believe he is electable. Have you met him or heard him speak? I have and that was 4-6 years ago when he ran, and he is much older now and nowhere to be seen.
Sad truth, it is all about money and marketing, who has the most charisma and public appeal. No one cares about credentials and qualifications.
Funny thing, John Flynn could be your man. He has charisma and is an excellent politician, who taught himself to speak Spanish. I have never met anyone who was so skilled at connecting with each and every individual he made contact with. he has an outstanding ability to make all people feel validated and worthy, he is a good listener, comes off as humble and accessible. I enjoy observing him in action and always learn from him. Just don't become his enemy, he is extremely vindictive and will no longer appear humble if you cross his path. He knows how to take an issue, exploit it and make the people passionate about it, boating center, the Knolls, look what he did with Mikels/Dantona. OUCH
This is not an endorsement of Flynn only an observation of people/political skills.
If Dems are serious they should choose the right candidate, don't go wishy-washy.
Reps. better be serious and also choose someone that is electable and not just be party puppets.
If either party is serious they will put ego's aside, but I don't think there is a snowball's chance in h*** of that happening.
Republicans need to put down their pride and think about winning and marketing. If they go with a Strickland or McClintock they could hand over the seat.
Don't write off Glen Becerra just yet he will appeal to the moderates!
With the right marketing they could run Ron Bamieh, he has the financial muscle. Persuade Bamieh to switch parties and run as Dem and the Dems. may have a chance.
Maybe the CAPC should be receruiting a DTS candidate. I am curious if the CAPC would choose Becerra or Bamieh? Anyone?
Whocares, I guess I should take that as a compliment, but for some reason I feel like I need a shower now. Do me a favor and keep my name out of this discussion. You only insult the real candidates and public servants from both parties when you make those kind of comments.
Glen Becerra has no chance whatsoever of beating Tom McClintock at anything including a foot race. Tom is well known for his stands for smaller government, low taxes, and taking brave stands.
Becerra is known for avoiding tough issues, pretending to be a moderate, and never being innovative. Simi Valley should just elect a town manager and tell him to copy everything done by other midsize cities.
If I remember correctly since Becerra arrived on the scene Simi Valley has dropped from number one in public safety to number 19 or lower. It isn't his fault of course, but he hasn't done anything about it.
To top this all off he works for an energy company. Isn't it his job to explain why power prices keep going up?
Last time I recall this town doesn't elect lobbyists, lawyers, public relations experts, or wishy washy moderates.
Becerra's ideas are right out of George Bush Sr.'s 1992 campaign. We all know how that worked out.
Voting for Becerra would be like voting for a new version of Elton Gallegly. Minus the immigration zeal. Which pretty much leaves you with...
Under "issues" his own website has these fine articles:
1. A fundraiser is going to have an Egyptian theme. Is he running for study council?
2. A blank link to the Star. Hmmm...still no issues.
3. Glen Becerra, a Simi Valley City Council member, has been trying to contact Seattle-based aerospace giant Boeing (formerly Rocketdyne) for some time now with little success.
He can't even get a return phone call.
Republicans will likely win no matter what. They can nominate someone to champion their values, or a quiet, run of the mill guy.
We should start a draft Tom group!
If the rethugs were brave they would really try to take on Brad Sherman. Keep sending them into his maw because he chews up your dreams and keeps on legislating!
Really, any word on why the Ventura Republicans if they are so confident never help against Sherman? They were born on third and think they hit a triple.
Chickens.
How about it?
Maybe if Democrats had someone like Rudy, who is America's mayor they could win.
I read above the words, "She lost by a huge margin. She lost to a guy that didn't even show up and wanted to retire."
hmmmm.. since when is 8.6% a huge loss margin?
