February 2007 Archives
I saw this sign outside of Wienerschnizel on Los Angeles tonight Feb. 24th.
As a test to see if Peter Foy and his team read this blog let's count down the time it takes to disappear. Of course it has been close to four months at so far.
How is it that the city has a new punitive sign law but yet this sign has been up for this long? I wish the city would enforce current laws before making new regulations.
Anyways, if you see old signs from ANY candidate e-mail them in and I will post them.

Barbra I saw your comment where you said you were open to answering many questions from the public. I figured with such a great offer you deserve the front page. If you want me to use another photo ever e-mail one to me.
Without further ado...
Welcome to the first of hopefully many installments of Ask Barbra.
Barbra Williamson is a local Simi Valley city council member and an advocate of digital democracy.
So, fire away.

Here is an e-mail I found in my inbox.
Read the whole post and then leave any feedback on this hot new political organizing tool. Republican party people feel free to send in your bar hopping events too.
Attention Liberal-leaning Drinkers!
Just a reminder that it's time again! Join us
this Thursday, February 22nd at 8 pm! We'll be
meeting at Rookee's on Main Street in Ventura one
more time before reevaluating our location.
At next week's Drinking Liberally we'll discuss
what other location may be more conducive to
liberal discussion. Also, we will be playing a game
of political trivia, so don't miss out!

Here is a recent source that says Tony Strickland is running for State Senate CA 19 to replace termed out senator Tom McClintock. Here is another source.
My guess at this point ( and it is really early) is that McClintock is waiting to see what Gallegly does.
Where does this leave Audra Strickland after 2008? Maybe running for county supervisor?
Check the date on the article. Does that mean that Glen Becerra knew Tony Strickland was running when he sent out feelers at the state party convention? That is of course if he really did. I still haven't seen the fabled flyer about Glen Becerra running.
Tony and Audra have an abundance of energy with all of their campaigns. I would imagine with his statewide fundraising network he is the front runner early on. Does anyone disagree with that statement?

What are your first thoughts on this editorial in The Star today?
Are they right? Did Simi Valley just outlaw Girl Scout's selling cookies? No more hot dog stands? Are we opening ourselves to lawsuits? In centralized economic planning back in vogue? Has any member of the city council eaten from the eloteros that they just banned? Vendors selling Mexican food items not found elsewhere have just been outlawed. Were they really a problem?
I doubt the law will be applied evenly.

With crime rising/falling in Simi Valley I have a political question.
Who ends up getting the blame/credit ? Will there be any impact on upcoming elections?

( The above cartoon is from The Star's in house cartoonist Steve Greeneberg.)
I was e-mailed a tip that Elton Gallegly might be preparing to run again. Like all anonymous stories take it with a grain of salt until it is confirmed.
When Elton Gallegly said if he ran again it would be his last term was it a pledge? In a tight election it could of been the reason for his victory, but as he won in a landslide, does it matter? Will his opponents use it against him?

( The above picture was created for me by Brian H. Mack. It is Glen Becerra, Simi Valley council member as Maj Alan "Dutch" Schaeffer from Arnold's movie the Predator. It all started when I saw a press release ( i En Espanol!, but since removed ) and story that Glen Becerra is helping Arnold team up to appeal to Hispanic voters.
Rumor has it that Glen Becerra was being promoted at the Republican Party State Convention last weekend as a candidate to replace Tom McClintock for CA Senate Seat 19. Someone posted here on my blog that a flyer was being passed around.
I was not at the convention. I don't have a copy of the flyer. And I don't have any second source to the rumor.
Can anyone bat down or confirm this rumor? I am sure one of my readers could just ask Glen Becerra and post the response.
I would e-mail him but I know he is busy getting ready to outlaw the menace of hot dog stands, pet goats, affordable self storage centers, and whatever else the city has been up to.
Maybe I am teasing the city council. Or maybe I am teasing Glen Becerra's opponents who won't have a long voting record of tough votes like state budgets, illegal immigration, and workers' compensation reform.
( Thanks to Brian Mack for another great photoshop!)
Will Jim Dantona join the race? Stay tuned for plenty of bad puns from this blog about the "Dantona 500".
In California State Senate seat 19 Tom McClintock is termed out and cannot run again in '08. This race wasn't on my radar as a seat Democrats could win, but a local politics junkie would like to change our minds.
Here is a guest blog entry from a local writer who wishes to remain nameless. For the sake of discussion let's call the writer Maximilien Robespierre.
